Believe there is some brownfield mediation work needed. Also believe GOT has plan to extend 15th street to Williams. Lack of budget from state is delaying that work.

Georgia Tech alum pledges $18M, new Tech Square tower to be named for him

https://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/..._news_headline

Quote:
One of the new towers to rise at Technology Square in Midtown Atlanta will be named for a prominent Georgia Tech graduate, who with his wife has pledged to give the school $18.75 million.

The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia is scheduled to vote Feb. 11 to name one of the towers being constructed as part of Phase III of Tech Square in honor of William W. "Bill" George and his wife Penny George, according to the agenda for the meeting. The tower would be named "George Tower."

Tech Square Phase III will be located on the northwest corner of West Peachtree and Fifth streets. Initial programming envisions a two-tower complex for the first phase, which will likely contain graduate and executive education for the Ernest Scheller Jr. College of Business, the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering, and other programming. The project will likely also include a large plaza with street-level retail and an underground parking deck. Phase III has an estimated cost of about $200 million and would provide more than 400,000 gross square feet. The earliest the building could open would be 2022.

“Phase III… would provide more than 400,000 gross square feet.”

It will be interesting to see two towers squeezed into just the northwest corner of that block. I wonder why they wouldn’t just build a single tower in such a constrained development space. It would also seem that two separate buildings would be less than ideal for regular staff interaction.

I wondered about this as well. The site is actually about the size of the Coda site if not larger.

I could see two Anthem like towers, with them leaving some of that lot for parking for the eventual second phase of phase 3.

Not as tall as I thought it would be but a welcome addition to the area. Build it!

I thought everything discussed for the past year said 30 stories and one of the best designed towers seen by Keene. That sketch is neither of those.

I’m counting a few stories over 30.

The sketch is impossible to make a floor count. None of the elements are equal distance apart except the center black lines. Windows aren’t completely consistent in height and vary every few floors. One way to count 19 floors, 30, 32, 33 or 34 depending on how you count bracing/windows. The site specifies 20 floors. This has to be a place holder because it’s awful honestly. I can’t possibly see what is appealing as it’s just a pencil sketch of a box with windows.

The website, which is quite bad, does not have an accurate representation of The Mark either. Their corporate statement is one of the worst I’ve ever read. Many grammatical errors throughout the site; it’s quite embarrassing if it’s for real. How? Very unprofessional, but hey they are making the millions I guess.....

Downtown student housing tower

I definitely count at least 30 floors, but the design looks meh. Hopefully this is a super crude sketch and it will look better once the actual rendering is released.

That is NOT the final approved plan. The design is greatly improved.

#thatshowrumorsstart

That was just speculation on this board.  Keane was only making the point that the planning dept isn't trying to redesign every proposal in the city.   As an example, he mentioned "a 30-story proposal in downtown"  that he said the developer was doing a "nice job".  No one knows exactly what project he was referring to.
