Well, something must still be done about the muck from the Cuyahoga River dredging, so new land will be created no matter what. I think that is already a part of the city's budget, so making the new port probably wouldn't cost as much as many would think.

It was also the subject of discussion in recent city council meetings, so I'm still remaining pretty optimistic about this plan.

Looks like the Flats East Bank is on track. The City Council just approved a huge financial package, including a $30 million loan.

Looks like the redevelopment of the Tudor Arms building in University Circle is a go!

Former Tudor Arms Hotel to be transformed into a Doubletree hotel
By Michelle Jarboe, The Plain Dealer
November 04, 2009, 9:35PM

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Work is under way to transform a landmark building at the edge of University Circle into a 154-room hotel, with a vintage swimming pool, a wood-paneled lobby and a floor of restored ballrooms and event spaces.

Overcoming a lending crunch, the Maron family aims to return the former Tudor Arms Hotel to its forgotten glory -- as a Doubletree hotel that could open in spring 2011. The developers, best known for remaking East Fourth Street, bought the building in 2007 from Case Western Reserve University and are tackling a $22 million project there.

Thanks for the new photos, MayDay.

Now it looks like you can ad the casino to your list of proposed projects since Issue 3 passed.

I thought this was cool. It's better if you watch it at Youtube (big screen).

Other Projects

Someone beat me to the public square re-design (which looks amazing). Here's a few other projects that I noticed weren't up on MayDay's first post.

A new pedestrian bridge in Voinivich park to help grow the lakeside:
http://blog.cleveland.com/architectu...edestrian.html

Plan to finally attach the Towpath to the lakeside parks:
http://blog.cleveland.com/architectu...rail_plan.html

Bergen Village and Starkweather complexes in Tremont (couldn't find any photos or designs, but they are being built right now);
http://www.highrises.com/blog/clevel...ering-tremont/

Cleveland State University campus expansion of 5 new dorms:
http://www.cleveland.com/opinion/ind...ost_at_cl.html

Anyway, I'm most excited for the Towpath addition. It's supposed to connect through the Flats and right to the lakeside. That would mean that the massive park and trail system south of Cleveland is finally connected to the downtown for residents to enjoy.

^I'll try to add some of the items you've all mentioned in the near future. For now, I've posted updated shots of Tremont Place Lofts and added the CSU dorms.

Yep - but its proximity to the Cleveland Clinic might give it a better shot at actually happening.

Updated photos of CSU Student Center and Euclid Commons dorms, UH Ireland Cancer Center, Cleveland Museum of Art, 27 Coltman and Circle 118 townhomes.

Good news about the Convention Center/Medical Mart *and* the Cleveland Clinic - first:

LMN Architects of Seattle chosen by Cuyahoga County and MMPI Inc. to design medical mart and convention center in Cleveland
By Steven Litt, The Plain Dealer
February 25, 2010, 10:30AM

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Patience has paid off for LMN Architects. Today, the Seattle-based architecture firm will be named conceptual designer of what Cleveland hopes will be the nation's first medical mart, plus a rebuilt Cleveland convention center. The firm has sought on and off for 11 years to design a new convention center in Cleveland.

Jeffrey Appelbaum, an attorney hired by Cuyahoga County to assist the project, said he will announce at a meeting of the Cuyahoga County Commissioners that the county and MMPI Inc. of Chicago made the choice to go with LMN over two other finalists for the project....

And then the Clinic news:

Cleveland Clinic plans massive spending campaign in 2010

By SHANNON MORTLAND

10:48 am, February 25, 2010

The Cleveland Clinic will spend $848 million on renovations and construction across the health system this year and is looking for ways to continue to expand its footprint locally, nationally and abroad.

Clinic CEO Dr. Delos “Toby” Cosgrove announced those plans during his State of the Clinic address this morning. The new construction projects come on the heels of the $1.2 billion spent in recent years on various building projects, such as the Clinic's $506 million heart hospital.

The Clinic has hired London-based architect Norman Foster to plan construction for the main campus.

I'm a Business major at CSU and just wanted to say that I love Clevelnd! I'm originally from the Steubenville area and plan to get an apartment downtown with my boyfriend this summer. He's a bit eery of the thought, but I'm sure he'll fall in love with it, just like I did. Good things are happening in Cleveland!

The PD just wrote an article about the University Circle apartments on May Day's original post. It seems they secured financing for the first phase of the project. Also, the article has a nice photo of the total neighborhood and the various projects that are pending (I can't believe how nice this will look, and right next to Little Italy!). Best of all, they are planning a new RTA train stop right in Little Italy (all I can say is it's about time!).

Also, the Opportunity Corridor (the expansion of I-490 from 77 east to University Circle) is finishing it's planning phase and is debating between two proposed routes. It seems like this project may be completed about the same time the University Circle projects may be done.

News on the proposed Casino. Looks like its going right down in the flats by the outdoor auditorium and Tower City. Not a bad place. I just hope Dan Gilbert keeps his promise to make a casino that enhances business growth nearby and not a blackhole of cash like all the casinos up in Detroit.

That new MOCA building looks awesome. I can't wait for it to be completed. It should be done around the time the renovations are done for the other Cleveland museum right there. Imagine how wonderful University Circle will be with the new UH cancer hospital and campus, two new museums, the additional RTA stop in Little Italy, and all the new restaurants and residentials being built there too. Talk about a hot spot!

i think the medical mart renderings look great! and i'll patiently wait for the images of uptown to climb from 'propsed' to 'under construction.'

the new MoCA museum looks a little like madison cube garden from futurama.
