Hey, what's the project on 12th Avenue and East Pike/Madison? They've got the older building in wraps and the below ground work is getting deeper. Don't forget Capitol Hill. Thumper's should be slated for demolotion very soon.

I actually think this looks pretty good, but can't help but think it will just be a big dead zone (no pun intended).

Senior housing is a big deal. Greater Downtown has several current and recent projects.

This is a good thing for Downtown. These complexes tend to have a lot of residents who lead active lives. They locate here not just due to hospitals but also due to the Symphony, shopping, restaurants, stadiums, and sometimes even colleges.

Tangent: When I was taking Spanish at Seattle Central around 1990, we saw film from the 70s about elections in South America that included a little old American lady. Afterward, a lady in our class said "you know, that was me". Turns out she was, in her 90s, taking Spanish so she could do a better job monitoring elections. Now, her name is on a high school on LQA (www.hwhs.org), a nature preserve, an environmental organization (www.hazelfilm.org), etc.

Anyway, with the aging of the baby boomers and the general downtown living trend, all good downtowns have a great opportunity to be busy retirement locations.

An article at the DJC (see thread in the NW section) has a new rendering for the 8th & Pike building, a building that seems to be missing from the first page, and probably should be added to the Proposed section.

Eighth + Pine

Quote:
Eighth + Pine

150 hotel rooms/200 condos
Developer: Executive Hotels
Architect: Weber + Thompson
Currently in for entitlement approvals, Eighth + Pine is the newest in the crop of Seattle’s hotel-condo projects. Developed by hotelier Salim Sayani of Executive Group of Companies in partnership with FANA, the project will be located on the edge of the retail district, in a newly developing neighborhood that includes Hedreen’s Olive 8 and Hanover’s Olivian Tower.

Looks Great! What are the chances it will be built? Any ideas who the hotel operator will be?

It's a primo location. Right next to great retail and entertainment. A flat walk to most of Downtown. Whole Foods and the Market both walkable. All of that makes me optimistic. Also, the hotel/condo combination benefits from a lot of useful synergies that make these projects work even when others don't. I give it a good chance.

Isn't it the 8th and Pine lot that is now mysteriously fenced off? That's the one adjacent the Camlin, right?

You bet Bond.

The 8th & Pine lot is currently being used as a construction staging area for the light rail stub tunnel that is being built under Pine. I believe you are referring to the long lot NW of the Camlin, along Olive, that is fenced off for the future Olivian aparments that are (hopefully) to begin soon.

According to today's DJC, this office tower in the Denny Triangle will start construction in January.

In other news, Escala has put a concrete surface on the adjacent building's masonry party wall, moved their fences out a couple feet from the sidewalk edge, fenced off the trees outside the fence, and piled a small amount of misc crap inside the fence. The backhoe still isn't doing much. But it sure looks like they're gearing up for a real start, maybe this week.

I added the Icon Tower to the first page.

That one almost looks like the same one as 6th and Wall??? At least they must be practically next to each other.

That's what I was wondering. Thanks, I'll change it.

When I was downtown on Monday it looked like the hole-digging was progressing pretty rapidly.
