Ugly addition. The world is better place with one less place of worship.

Yes, I do every summer, out on the island has the best beaches for that and those beaches have some of the cleanest water you could ask for.

I for one love the plan for that land in Montreal. Fake urban beaches are fine for city centre's, Sugar Beach and a few others like it here are very popular places for people to chill out and relax.montreals riverfront could use more of this type of redevelopment.

I never said it wasn't a nice addition to the public realm just that calling it a beach seems like an awfully big stretch.

As for the Ottawa church proposal, I think it may not be a beauty but it's very convenient............after seeing this monstrosity, people will quickly be able to say confessional lest they think they have gone to hell.

I dunno. Some of the most beautiful buildings in Canada are Cathedrals and Churches.

It has not been a place of worship for years. It's an events venue and restaurant.

I'm very happy to see an announcement for this project! A much needed addition for the city, and yes better than a baseball stadium, which would have been a waste of money and space.

Farine five roses isn't part of the development so far as I can tell, it's very much still in operation and is on the bikerdyke pier on the other side of the bridge.

They make interesting multi-family conversions despite the claims they all get demolished.

There's definitely a lot of good church conversions - some very unfortunate ones (architecturally) as well. Best when additions are kept to a minimum.

My favourite I'm familiar with may be the Abbey Lofts in Toronto near me: https://maps.app.goo.gl/QnoxGDgKZRkkUo4S9

A lot of the interior details have been kept apparently, and the unit that has the tower seems very cool. Price tags of the units are reflective of this though!

That one is extra creepy with the higher quality church details.

That is fantastic! Other than the balconies on the side of the houses and the sign, you could never tell it was converted.

Balconies and new dormers are the telltale sign for the many conversions. Some are more extensive than others like 660 Pape and others leave you perplexed like 701 Dovercourt (the balconies)

40 Westmoreland is the superstar.

St Leslieville is the best name.

660 Pape is quite obvious. Not the most delicate execution. 701 Dovercourt isn't bad at all. Other than the inset balconies, you can't see any glaring change from the front facade. I agree 40 Westmoreland is well done.

The 701 Dovercourt balconies are obtrusive; inconsistent more than the extensive changes to 660 Pape. I like 660 Pape more but, I wouldn't rank one over the other on how they look on the outside.

This on is u/c in Ottawa. Taller tower will be the third tallest in Downtown proper. A new tallest with similar design is u/c next door.

I was unimpressed when the first cladding went up. However, these will end up alright.

The praise these are getting is in contrast to Claridge's boxy blandness prominence than being well executed quality designs. A 6 out of ten getting the pomp of a 10 out of 10 for being better than a 4 out of 10.

Hopefully the public realm out front ends up similar to the rendering -- too many cities/developments neglect this aspect.
