Yeah, I really love that building. It's the kind of building I've always fantasized about Austin getting some day. It's just kind of the quintessential American skyscraper in my mind.

In my mind, it's the Chrysler building in New York, Willis (Sears) Tower or John Hancock Buildings in Chicago. All of those are incredible.

Those, too. I have a thing for buildings with setbacks, and I've always thought they sort of resemble the rocky mountains and terrain in the American West.

I would add Charlotte’s BofA tower and Cleveland’s Key tower to that list.

The Chrysler Building would top my list. The Williams tower in Houston is my #2. Maybe we could start a thread just for this discussion?

I remember viewing BofA in person as a kid and falling in love with skyscrapers.

I like that idea. I have a few other lesser knowns in mind I'd mention, too.

My guess is we're not going to hear much about this. It's a 2019-2020 start date most likely.

I disagree. They seem to still be sticking to a groundbreaking this coming winter (4Q2018/1Q2019). They recently received the FAA "okay" and the entitlement process should be complete in the coming months.

Hopefully they have a new design before it breaks ground and the height makes it taller than the Burj Khalifa. A big finger to the FAA

The sooner it breaks down the less likely that it will be reduced. Other than a couple of exceptions, projects tend to get shorter rather than taller. Would be awesome to at least have it in the 900 foot range if not 1,000

What a nice looking building, I can't wait for this to break ground so they can't keep reducing the height.

Are they still planning to build the lower office portion first and complete or go forward with the condo portion at a later date? That always worried me about this project.

As far as I recall, that has never been the case. One of the developers stated that the office portion would open first. And that makes sense because the office levels make up the bottom half of the tower, and having a cash flow while the residential half was being built would be desirable. I don't recall an article stating that the residential portion would be built at a later date. But nothing's final until it's done.

Very noisily for the office workers down below and the residents of the Bremond Block across the street.

If I recall, the the original office floors in Chicago's Blue Cross Blue Shield building remained occupied throughout its 24 floor vertical expansion ~10 years ago.

On a much smaller scale than the Chicago project, St David's added floor(s) to one or two of their buildings. It can be done of course, but I don't think that is the plan for 600 Guadalupe.
