I think I remember hearing that Dal ended up with the 3rd site and plans to use it as an expansion for Sexton Campus.

pretty sure there's a third site known as the Rosina, which is essentially the empty lot along Queen St right beside the new library, and that Dal has the lot behind it and beside it for the expansion for Sexton Campus. Its Listed on the HRM website http://www.halifax.ca/mediaroom/pres...isterSites.php

I'm surprised no one posted a pic from inside the library yet.

Jeez- they were sparing no space between that house on Birmingham Street and the side of the new building. The address (I think 1469 Birmingham) butted up so close like that, particularly with the chimney on the side nearly touching the new build, is there some sort of clearance issue with that, and what I'm guessing will be a glass wall?? My brain is telling me something's up with that... lol

Had heard that Dal has a right of first refusal for the property. They get the chance to buy it at market value before it is offered to anyone else.

I have no problem with Dal taking that site, however if they are to purchase it from the city there should be a clause that requires Dal to build on the site within a few years. We don't need a parking lot sitting there next to our beautiful new library for the next decade. And it should also require retail or commercial on Queen street.

What's the max height allowed on that site? I hate to be a NIMBY, but I also hate to lose any part of the view from the new rooftop patio at the library.

Except for the view that will be blocked by The Maple, which is essentially just the water treatment plant. No need to see that.

The view plane is available on the HRM website : http://halifax.ca/giss/Disclaimer.php and select 'Layers' and then zoom in.
The top floor of the library is angled to conform with the viewplane from Citadel Hill.
Almost all of the adjacent property on Queen Street is outside the viewplane.

The view is a game changer. I actually see some value in respecting aspects of it, for sure.

Once the trendies stop going to the library to take selfies with the Killer Stairs in the background, it will be a non-issue. Nobody will be there to see any view in a few months.

The library should have been built with a 29 story apartment tower above it. Might have reduced the costs.
