Using Cushman Wakefield's methodology, they put Montreal at 83M sq ft for the CMA and 58M for Calgary - so Montreal still has significantly more space overal - but given the city's makeup, that is no surprise. But yes, kudos for Calgary for having a centralized core.

Actually Cushman Wakefield DOES include the Beltline as part of their "central office space" inventory. They also include the financial core and the east and west end sections of DT. And yes, the Beltline is listed as 6M sq feet.

Almost as if Okotooks was included in the CMA!

Montrealers should hold their heads up high because Calgary, in terms of architecture, culture, and sophistication cannot come close to rivalling Montreal.

Calgary's skyline could have a lot more intrigue if developers would grow a pair and start building taller (a la Toronto) rather than stupid twins.

What a mindless post?? This isn't a comparison of which city is better or worse and I don't think a single Montrealer is holding their head a little lower because some other city may have more office space in its downtown.

You're not trolling for something to start are you??

That's just his way, to always find the negative. Seriously though, I don't see how someone can look at Calgary's skyline vs its population and not be impressed.

Calgary's office boom is great for that town and it certainly doesn't take anything away from Montreal.

Oh neat. That's good. So many measures I've seen count seperately. Now the Census on the other hand...

No, you need an imagination and vision as to what it COULD look lik(in other words, you cannot fathom it, lol). The potential for an unbelievable skyline is there, in the form of a few 80 storey towers, rather than the conservative shorter developments, and the twins.

The only city in the country with any interesting developments.

They're not including the Bow yet though(another 1.7million square feet). Including the Bow there's about 40 million square feet within Calgary's CBD and just over 6.5 millions in the Beltline. So a total of about 46.5 million square feet in the core at the moment. The article is saying central office inventory will be slightly under that of Montreal in 2016 @ about 48million. In reality, developers will be adding at least 4-5million square added to the core by then, and Calgary's central office inventory will most certainly top 50million sq feet.

Out of curiousity, what proportion of Calgary office space is in the downtown area compared to the suburbs?

^At the moment 46.5 millions sq feet in the core vs just over 17 million sq feet in the burbs(still within city limits).

There seems to be more of push lately with office, retail, residential, and sometimes industrial mixed in as part of a master planned community.

Quarry park, Westmount, oxford's new mixed use airport park come to mind.

There's another huge mixed use project within the burbs(2.5billion dollars) in the planning/leasing stages. Can't think of the name at the moment!

The figure of 17 Million for the burbs includes 6.5 million from the Beltline. so the total would actually be around 11 million for the burbs.
