I think the Logan and Princess one just seemed to slow down because they did the Princess side first then moved on to the short L portion which is hidden from view?

Someone mentioned here it fell through. My office looks out to it and I haven't seen any hint of action there in months. Just people parking that moved into the historic part.

98 Albert is dead...so they demolished a heritage building in a national historic site.

Damn that was a building I was extra excited for. It would've had the cool metal siding that looked like brass, at a super visible location. Ah well.

I can't find an answer to this...can someone help?

Winnipeg has tons of open space....and a lot of open space in prime commercial areas.

Why don't we have a waterpark like Edmonton? Winnipeg is becoming a place where people would visit just for the sake of visiting. Why not add to their attractions like a waterslide/waterpark? We could draw from North Dakota, Thunder Bay, and Saskatchewan. A waterpark adjacent to Polo would be great!

Thoughts?

Maybe because they are not economically viable.

Winnipeg tried adding a water park numerous times over the years and they all fell through because of economics. Latest attempt was at the Forks. I suppose the City could just build one.

It's working in Edmonton...for like 30 years. Why not here?

Was West Edmonton Mall (maybe more specifically the water park) funded by government? Tax incentives aside, I can't find anything with a quick Google search indicating government funded any of the facility.

If there will be one built in Winnipeg, it better be privately funded. If a private company doesn't think it'll work, then we have to live with travelling for a half decent all-year waterpark.

I wish we had something to do, an indoor amusement park and water park would do wonders for our community. Honestly don’t understand why it hasn’t happened. Maybe the city’s just too poor to sustain a business like that, there’s lots more money in Alberta to keep things like that going. Both Calgary and Edmonton have amusement parks... Winnipeg has tinkertown. Lol. But yeah I agree we desperately need something. Dubai can build indoor ski hills but we can’t have a decent water park.

If the government can subsidize sports teams for the wealthy, they can subsidize a water park for the poor.

I don't really get the attraction of going to a big mall. Or really any mall.

If the City really wanted to build a water park, it'd be done already. Thinking it's going to attract people like WEM, or Mall of America, it will not.

If you just want to have a waterpark in Winnipeg, that's a better reason. Which of course I'd go to with the kids and stuff.

A few people I know like to go down to the states for weekend trips on the regular. The Canad Inns place with the water slides is a nice bonus. But not the reason they go. (They go for the shopping apparently).

I'm not sure if this is sarcastic or not but I'll respond anyways.

I agree that the City needs water amenities that are accessible. I just don't like the idea of building a big indoor one. I prefer the smaller scale splash-pad features in parks like Central, at the Forks, the one at Fort Rouge Park. They always seem to be really well used.

If we really need indoor space, I'd rather see inner city community clubs with pools get the funding. I imagine a giant water park would be built way out in the burbs somewhere. Given the demographic makeup of neighbourhoods in Winnipeg, I doubt it would be a "water park for the poor".

The newer water park thing in Transcona is always busy. Should build those things all around the City.

If the City were to build some kind of water park, it would need to be centrally located and not in south Winnipeg. They would also need to make it affordable for all families, or have a program to allow all people access to it.

A massive waterpark would definitely be a wonderful amenity for Winnipeg.

I loathe malls. As a kid, when KP opened it was cool; Nothing is worse now than strolling around a mall.

This is the kind of thing that needs to stop. The City has no balls to prevent these travesties - except wrecking balls.

WEM is still $30 a person for their waterpark. A family is well into $100 for the day at the waterpark....excluding concessions etc...

Comparing Winnipeg to Dubai in any capacity is the most absurd thing I’ve read on here in awhile
