If the city saw that and like the idea, they could just do it. It's not up to Sutton how the street is designed. Raising the street isn't going to make them cancel the project.

There's a closure of Hargrave tomorrow for construction. Wondering if it has to do with the skywalk again. I notice they're close to having it enclosed overtop of the roadway. They've got spandrel mostly in place on the top and bottom. Just need to get the main windows in. Looks like the roof is mostly done too.

Our premises manager sent an email yesterday afternoon advising us of the outage saying it was skywalk related and the Impark and PCL Customer services reps will be there to help us get into the two lots safely.

They should raise all the streets to sidewalk level. Why do pedestrians have to go up and down curbs?

Curbs are there to guide cars down the roadway and keep them off the sidewalk. Bollards would serve a similar purpose. I would not propose a roadway with no curbs, bollards, barriers, whatever between people and cars. You'll have cars driving up on the sidewalk in no time.

I guess you don't push a stroller downtown. It would be OK if the infrastructure wasn't such a mess. So you come to a parking garage entrance in Winnipeg and does the car have to climb a small ramp up or does the person in a wheelchair have to make the 45 degree climb up and down broken concrete? It's like that at most intersections downtown.

Curbs are also important for directing rain water and all the crap in it into the sewers. There would be puddles everywhere otherwise.

And ya, the obvious safety reason.

I understand that there are problems with crumbling/steep edges making it difficult for strollers and wheelchairs but that sounds more like a maintenance problem than a reason for changing the whole system.

I get it. All I'm saying is if every street had no curbs and was same level as sidewalk, you need some kind of other barriers to prevent cars from driving allover the place. It the cars that are the problem.

With bollards, the absence of curbs becomes a non issue.

Curbs - visible with LIDAR and RADAR - will also tell self-driving buses where the road is. Which is especially important in the winter, as RADAR works through a bit of snow when that snow is confusing the optical sensors.

Yup. Bollards would be perfect.

What was done on John Hirsch Place? IIRC the street is level with the sidewalk.

Looks like Sutton Place site is ramping up. People moving around. Looks like a dumpster there. porta potty. The site trailers been there for a little while now. The rumours must be true.
