This Idaho city just brought home the gold for being bike friendly

“Over the last four years, Boise has continued to prioritize and invest in projects that provide safe and reliable transportation options in our growing city,” said Mayor Lauren McLean. “I am proud of the work that we’ve done to expand safety and accessibility for cyclists across the community.”

Case Study: Looking Ahead to Platinum
Boise’s approach prioritizes safety, accessibility, and inclusive mobility. Both Boise and Ada County have adopted Vision Zero commitments and the Ada County Highway District (ACHD)’s Livable Streets Performance Measures ensure bike infrastructure is designed for people of all ages and abilities. The city’s Adaptive Recreation Program and Safe Routes to School initiatives expand cycling access, while Boise’s efforts to reduce speed limits have resulted in 76.81% of the city’s roads (over 1,100 miles) being set to 20 MPH or less.

one St Luke's tower crane has been installed. at least one more will be added... you can see the base in the ground.

also there are two new cranes in the West End, so finally some activity is happening there.

I just happened to come up Broadway today and notice the St. Luke's crane.

What's the crane for on Fairview (downtown), next to the old Boise Car Upholstery building?

The New Path Community Housing expansion is under construction adjacent to Sushi Joy.

Pioneering tech growth while focusing on worker safety

Quote:
Computer technology changes at a stunning pace. It seems like these developments just appear in our lives in the form of faster speeds, better cloud services, and improved artificial intelligence. The fact is, though, that things must be built to develop the technology we all use every day. Advanced memory semiconductors are a key component of this progress. To build more and better memory chips in the U.S., Micron Technology is building a leading-edge memory manufacturing facility in Boise, Idaho.

The numbers behind this construction project—the largest ever in Idaho—are as remarkable as the technology that will be developed in the buildings when complete:

8,000 tons of steel
15 new buildings, including one of the state's largest office buildings and a water treatment plant
3,000 parking spaces, including one of the state's largest parking structures
Approximately 40 cranes involved in construction
More than 4,000 construction workers during peak activity

Imgur. When I post full size images it messes up the formatting of the forum (adds a horizontal scroll bar).

Do you fix the maximum horizontal px size of your images?

‘Nothing like this in the NW’: Construction starts on 50-acre park at Expo Idaho
By
Margaret Carmel - BoiseDev Sr. Reporter
February 14, 2025 - 2:31 pm

Quote:
The eastern end of the defunct Les Bois Park will soon become a new oasis along the Greenbelt.

After years of talks and planning, construction began late last year on the new 50-acre park along the Greenbelt on Ada County’s Expo Idaho property. The project, called The Park at Expo Idaho, will be completed by 2026 using $32 million of American Rescue Plan Act funds distributed by the Biden administration in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

AC Hotel and Arthur Apartments.
Talked to the Arthur leasing agent last week. Said they had about 25 units leased so far with move-ins already happening.

i saw the YMCA crane is up. by my count, that makes 8 tower cranes currently downtown with a smattering of others around town, and with the 40 cranes involved in the Micron expansion, there are more than 50 construction cranes in Boise. that's got to be some kind of record.
