Dense residential is what builds neighbourhoods. Office Towers add about as much as parkades. (There's a few buildings in Ottawa I'm not certain if they're office towers or parking garages...)

And those might look a bit nicer, but they're probably as dull and unwalkable as the first picture, while downtown Vancouver is super walkable, even if a few side streets are a bit quieter.

Downtown Vancouver. That's a rather unexpected tangent in this conversation. I'm even super high right now.

I don't think downtown Vancouver reflects the centre of a city of 2 million inhabitants well but, I certainly don't find any aspect comparable to lowrise suburban subdivisions.

I suppose sticking to the original topic is unexpected on here.

Nice photo. However, to me, it really underscores how big a disappointment L Tower turned out to be.

The tower turns heads, the sides can be improved in the future when the building needs re-cladding. It's far from a disappointment and better then most residential towers built in almost any city. That being ssaid the west facing side is it's least photogenic.

Discussions take different directions when things get "boring". It made zero sense to bring Vancouver up in light of suburban subdivision design.

Because, despite it being in suburbia and many would think built for cars, the street is simply shoddy for everything and good for nothing. The garages are too small to fit a car in, and since every single house has a driveway there's virtually no room to park on the street. Since most families will have two cars, it means the only solution is to jam both their vehicles onto the too-small driveway.

Good thing it was actually a discussion about whether downtown Vancouver was really boring or not then.

Some pics of Vancouver and North Vancouver by Pinion

Love patio season. If I had to live in a suburb I can't imagine choosing any place over North Vancouver

Love the CIBC tower. Sleek and timeless. Canada's tallest for like, 2 weeks.

It's my favorite Montreal tower. Sleek and timeless is right. She could use a good scrub though.

I think I've been to almost every one of those restaurants.

A scrub? Are you talking about the right tower? The CIBC is made of horizontal strips of glass curtain wall alternating with spandrels of different types of stone... not dirty at all.
