^great article. I walked the development, as well as much of the rest of the area, this past weekend and was thoroughly impressed. Gastown and hastings has SO much potential (not just in terms of being gentrified) and is coming along nicely now.

James Schouw's new project "Artemsia"

At the bottom right hand corner of the site, click on the "PC monitor" gadget to see an interview with the developer.

I am so stoked for Artemisia. I live in the 'hood and it would be so much nicer to see this building (especially donned with substantial art) than the 'William B Davis Centre for Actors Study'.

I only hope the "rumour" of James Schouw and Associates demise is way off.

so it's going in on the southwest corner? smart move of schouw to grab something along helmcken in advance of the greenway, good compromise between westend and downtown too, though i guess the site is surrounded my some hella ugly buildings! ick. also a little surprised at the low height, especially considering how he intends to build, though i guess he'll make it up if the high-end market is interested. definitely one to watch at any rate - presales success included.

Man I'm liking that project and the art aspect of it all is very exciting

On the woodwards tip here is another article I came across: http://vancitybuzz.blogspot.com/2009/10/woodwards-is-revitalizing-downtown.html

Good read and I think it sums up peoples feeling about the development! I am actually thinking of buying. Any sellers on here that care to sell at a good rate

For those of you who find James Schouw's project of interest, here is a great little video to check out:

I hadn't heard about this - very cool. Another positive sign of life in the DTES.

when did L'hermitage start its colourful roof light thing?

I've only just noticed it the last couple of weeks - was it always that way?

Yep, always been like that.

And contrary to popular belief it was not shut down by nimby strata councils within weeks of completion!

Work is continuing on the TD Tower canopy.
A new biege fabric canopy was installed on the vestibule facing the Sears Plaza yesterday. It actually looked much much better for the couple weeks when the old green canopy had been removed. There was much more light in the vestibule (i.e. near the Fido Kiosk at the top of the escalators).

I think that map just shows the existing/old Onni display centre (last used for The Beasley).
Anyone know where the project is located - looks like Mt Pleasant...
