I'm not sure if there are any more cities named Austin.
that's true for most/many of the cities where it's omitted.

Yea. I know. I should have specified.. I meant it in the context that the Austin area isn't as big as many of those cities.

I think that I saw Oklahoma City in the list, but I'll bet that there isn't any other Oklahoma City anywhere else.

That's pretty interesting. Still find it irritating though.

I have a cousin that lives in Dallas outside Atlanta...

I don't mind the Austin, Texas thing. Austin stands on its own just fine and is a bit of an odd duck in this state (haha), but I like that it doesn't ignore the fact that it's still part of it.

But you have to admit that Austin goes together with Texas, almost as well as Dubliner Cheese goes with Cabernet Sauvignon, am I right or what?! Or perhaps Nadel und Faden, Ja??

A CVC determination was filed today for a site on the 700 block of E. 3rd St. But the site is mostly covered by a CVC.

If any city doesn't need to remind you what state it's in it's New York, New York. So Austin, Texas is fine. If anything, it reminds people that a city like Austin can exist in a state like Texas.

The Texas Lottery Commission is under the same CVC and seems to be about 4 stories tall. Could we assume that a similar height is possible for this block? Meaning, I guess, that regardless of its CVCness, it's not doomed to be a crossfit shack + broken concrete lot forever, right?

a source just told me that the block that includes Maiko, Belmont, and Ausin Ale House is under contract to Stream to be developed into a high rise. Anyone else have info on this one?

That is the site of this 3rd & Colorado-ish rendering that has been floating around for a couple years. It's by GDA who designed 3rd & Colorado. Although the image is no longer featured on GDA's website,

Does it also include the Compass Bank on that same half-block? I would miss Maiko and the Ale House, but that bank drive through needs to go.

Ugh I really hope not. I think those older brick buildings, even though they're one story, are quite charming. There's an ugly compass bank next door...why can't they take over that?!

Anyone know what's going on at the old Taco Cabana on MLK? It's been vacant since it closed a few months ago and I noticed some fencing was put up this week.

That sure looks like it's the southwest corner of West 6th & Lavaca looking south toward the Hobby Building.

I don't know if there's anything planned here but the one story structure at 13th and Lavaca came down today.

There were posts a while back (in this thread most likely) about something planned for the adjacent building to the north. This demo is probably part of that project.

A Burger King is going up there.

I want to say that a government related building is supposed to go up there. I'm not 100% certain of that though.
