Yeah I snuck back there after Krewe du Vieux a few weeks ago. It's a great-looking building with great-looking residents.

The pool is a little exhibitionist, though. Most people would prefer some kind of privacy fence, but Sean Cummings chose a fence that's about as transparent as can be.

Just wanted to say that I just got back from my first visit to New Orleans, and I have to say, that it has vaulted itself to one of my favorite, if not my favorite, cities in North America. What an amazing place. I had a fantastic time and really appreciate the care free attitude that runs through the city. People there seem to have a better idea of what it is to really live life there. I hope to be back very soon, because she enchanted me like few have ever been able to. I love you, New Orleans.

Hopefully their appeal fails and we get a new Roberts, too bad this decision didn't force them to also redevelop the Broad St, Roberts but at least someone else is hopefully fixing that

Yea, the Howard Extension was included in a master plan I saw long ago. I don't see how it's possible without pulling down the Post Office building, which will soon be closed anyway.

Well, is they going to being built more hospital? They need more room for the patient. Because they need bigger space. They need more convenient for the soldier & veteran, too. They need more room for the patients & veteran, too. Don't you remember where old hospital in MSY? They have no room to being built more new hospital. I remember that I watch on Health Channel. They need expand more patient room and more new ER room, too.

Tennis, what made you post about this project? Has it come back to life? Or was it in an archive somewhere?

Manning Architects did a sport district master plan back in the '90s and you can see Howard Avenue cutting past Loyola Avenue. There even seems to be a streetcar going down Howard. Also, notice the enormous parking garage/building to the left of the New Orleans Arena, where the big parking lot with the Superdome sign is.

Edit: It just dawned on me - the new Streetcar/bus hub the RTA wants to build should go on City Park Avenue (near the new 911 call center). If regular passenger train service comes along the tracks from the airport, it passes that exact spot and would make an excellent train/bus/streetcar hub.

I posted about it because the project is still happening and I think it will certainly help traffic flow in the area. Its even more important once the Postal plant closes.

Not sure where I read it but I think its happening after the streetcar opens.

Also I went to Julia Jump last night and heard about a really interesting proposal the HDLC just received.

Its for this parking lot on 618 Magazine that has just a facade left. The proposal is a giant glass cube behind the restored facade covering the whole lot. The architects are the same guys Apple uses. Should be an interesting addition if it happens.

http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&sa...-8&sa=N&tab=wl

Similar to something like this it seems.

That would be Bohlin Cywinski Jackson. If it's true, that's awesome.

St. Roch Market - Demolition/Remediation

Crescent Park

Parking Lot - curbs and sewers are in, but pavement will wait until the contractors are done using heavy equipment.

Foundations for the Piety Arch - this is a arch-shaped pedestrian bridge that will allow visitors to cross over stopped trains.

Lamp Posts, Comfort Station (toilets)

Great pictures Ardecila!!

Re: Howard Avenue Extension. I found where the Regional Planning Commission just put out an RFP for the Environmental Assessment(http://www.norpc.org/requests_for_proposals.html) due April 4, and the report needs to be complete 6 months after the contract is awarded. So it looks like this project is quickly materializing.

I'm all for it!! The streetgrid in this part of town desperately needs to be reconnected, and if the Superdome's on/offramps would be connected directly to an extended Howard Avenue, I could see traffic dramatically improving in the CBD, while Howard Avenue becomes a more desirable street to build on! It will also reduce the traffic on the Pontchartrain expressway, and make things easier if the Claiborne Overpass actually comes down one day.

\

It looks like the fence is a "green fence," so that over time the vines in the planters below will grow to cover the entire fence and will provide privacy.
