Another cold, wet, miserable October day in Vancouver. This month has really been awful. Supposed to get nicer again by the weekend at least.

27C with a humidex of 33 and sunny. About as perfect of a day you can get. Blue sky, moderate humidity, light to almost non existent wind.
Yesterday's t-storm amounted to 2.4 mm at YUL so the all-time August record still has not been broken. 2 mm away.

Low of 16C this morning.

The warmspot was Moosonee, ON at 32.5C.

Warmest low was Fort Frances, ON at 21.0C.

I didn’t find today particularly cold but it was grey and miserable.

Hot and muggy, high of 29.1 with a humidex of 39.9 and a low of 20.2. There is a risk of thundershowers for the next couple days and a heat warning is in effect until Wednesday, humidex values near 40 could continue until Friday.

15C and sunny in Moncton at 8 am, going up to 27C this afternoon.

Cold front passes through tomorrow, bringing showers, and lowering temperatures for the remainder of the week to the low 20s.

Enjoyed the rare (here) treat of thunder and lightning this morning. Sporadic rain on an overcast day thus far.

Any time I go fishing using soft plastics, aka rubber worms, and there's small fishing yanking it multiple times in rapid succession (too big for them to take it), it's usually perch. They are small, but feisty. And a pretty fish. Never actually ate one before but they look like good eats. I never target them. I would if I was patient enough to clean them. Or if there was a good population of jumbo perch to target.

Went on a nature walk while my oil was getting changed on North Service Road on Thursday. Fantastic views of the service road, storage facilities and the QEW.

Anyway, anytime I see a path or an alley or tunnel, etc., I am instantly intrigued. I want to walk down it and see what's on the other side.

Like flar and SHH on the past couple of pages, I also spotted some butterflies. For some reason they weren't nearly as colourful.

Just as an aside, has anyone actually seen any King Chuck coinage in general circulation yet?

I got a collectors set when they first came out, so I know they exist, but, I have never come across a Charles III coin yet in my change.

Admittedly, I don't pay cash very much any more, but, I would have thought I would have come across one somewhere by now.

You have to try perch sometime, probably my favourite fish to eat. I'm not a big fisherman, but we generally fish for perch and pickerel (walleye) from a boat using a pickerel rig and worms or small minnows. That's considered old-school but it works, others are using plastics with a drop shot. Prime time for perch is September to October. If it ever freezes over, you can catch a ton of perch ice fishing too

My buddy sent me a photo of a King Charles loonie on friday - so they are definitely around. I haven't seen one personally yet.

Not into coins but I did manage to collect these three books several years ago over the course of a couple years. For the US, anytime I was there I was on the look out and then asked colleagues and friends to be on the look out for certain states and territories I hadn't yet obtained.

And things are burning.

Evening showers tonight will ensure we'll still be able to have camp fires. But we're up here for 10 days and there's a good chance we're going to finish the entire rack of wood. This was full and we've only had four fires so far.

By the way, how did bags of firewood on the road jump from $5 to $7? And some bags are $10. And in a store I've seen anywhere from $12 to $20. If we paid for firewood, our budget would be in the hundreds between May and October. I know much of that is dried for a long time and some is hardwood and some is probably scented, but I imagine newbie campers probably buy one bag and have a camp fire and burn through it in like two hours. How many bags do you need if you're going to party sleep around a fire from say 7pm to 8am?

Dude. I was shooting at an event up at Big White on Saturday, and the temperature plummeted. It was 31C in Kelowna on Friday, and then on Saturday, it was 5C and pouring rain up at Big White (around 45 minutes from Kelowna). It was the most difficult photoshoot I've ever done. I almost quit about six hours in. I was exposed to the rain with no shelter, and drenched with no water-resistant shoes or pants. I couldn't stop shivering. I made it through the shoot thanks to being able to put on some dry clothes after seven hours in the rain.

Here are some pictures from that mess of a day.

Starting to see snow in the alpine, looks like summer in the mountains is winding down. Bring on larch madness!

Hot and muggy, high of 33 with humidex of 42 and low of 23.6. Hottest day of the summer, I think. A line of storms just passed through, but seems to have broken up before it got here. We're getting some light rain now.

Some pics from today and yesterday

Great updates megadude, I loved this photoset, it really tells a story.

Gotta say I'm blown away by all the pictures on this last page alone. I can't imagine that photoshoot and how difficult it was giallo.
