Developer to buy Austin land held by heirs of ‘Peanuts’ creator Schulz

Stream Realty Partners confirmed that it has a contract to buy the triangular 1.4-acre site bounded by South First, West Riverside and Barton Springs Road, The tract is currently home to a Hooters restaurant and a parking lot. Stream Realty is considering developing an office project there, company executives said.

Site prep is underway for 70 Rainey. This will eventually be Austin's 7th tallest.

You know I've been thinking about when this current building boom began. We have had multiple cranes continuously on the skyline for how many years now? It does not look like that will change anytime soon.

Frost came in, what, 2004? I'd like to think that it started shortly after that. Frost preceded the boom a bit, in my mind. Kevin or someone else could probably give a more precise answer though.

I feel the Nokonah and Frost kinda led the current building boom with a small break following, but since 360 went up in 2008 it has been non-stop.

A vacant retail space on Congress Avenue in downtown Austin could be transformed into a 30-story tower with 135 luxury apartments, office space, a restaurant and a bar. But the proposed project is also notable for what it won’t have: any space for cars.

The project — called The Avenue — won’t include a parking garage or any space for auto parking. It is being billed by its developers as the first “truly car-free luxury development in downtown Austin,” designed to encourage biking, walking, ride-sharing and public transportation.

Nelsen said developers hope to break ground by May 1, 2017. The project is expected to take two years to build. Nelson said his team is still working to secure financing for the project, which he estimates will cost $55 million to $60 million.

Johnson Trube & Associates is building Skyloft, a luxury 22-story tower on the site of the historic Dabney-Horne house — home to one of UT’s first professors, Robert Dabney.

The project is scheduled to break ground in August and be completed before the fall 2018 semester. A percentage of units will be earmarked as affordable for students who qualify.

The Avenue looks great. Will extend the skyline further north.

The student housing project looks pretty good... for a prison.

This one should be a little taller than the neighboring Aloft. With one less floor, but it appears the bottom 8-9 floors will be commercial. Typically commercial floors are 16' roughly and hotel rooms 10'. That would make the podium taller than the Fairmont I believe. And that's massive.

Also I'm bumping this thread up. It seems to become inactive a lot.

That's because it's mostly our "public face"; used mostly for project announcements.

I like the student housing building, whatever its name is. It's busy and I like that. And school is supposed to be a little prisony.

For The Avenue. I can't help but imagine what it will all look like when both it and Aloft are done. Congress Ave is getting in the development game. It's going to be a pretty interesting street with a canyon effect. As an Austin native, I can't help but get a sense that Austin is turning into an actual city. I know that may sound ridiculous to some but I think many Austinites still feel a sense of inadequacy (that we're not a big city) but that's changing, one development at a time.

Nice! And I see the "art wall" stretches all the way around the power station now.

On the other side of downtown, The Fairmont is making crazy progress. It has an imposing physical presence now; impossible to ignore. The glass is going up on the top section and the base is building up.

Wow the Avenue looks like an awesome tower and it's going to be really skinny on that lot. I was afraid that they would be tearing down something historic for it but the building that's there now looks like a 1940s single story terd so that's good.
