Easton, Allentown, and Bethlehem are becoming a center of locus in their own right. It has the potential to be a super dynamic satellite region of Philadelphia (and New York).

I did wish that there was a bit more centralized organization to provide the region with a strategic focus, sort of how we have the PIDC, Ben Franklin Technology Partners, the University City Science Center. If there were a few more major corporate relocations to the region from North Jersey and a strategic entrepreneurial alliance between some quasi public foundations and say, Lehigh (University), Lafayette College, Moravian, and DeSales, it could really take off.

My only hope is that there is enough momentum to pull areas further out, like Carbon and Schuykill Counties, into its regional orbit in order to provide more economic opportunity for a wider swath of the state. I think for sure we're already seeing it in southern Carbon County...but it remains to be seen how far it can go.

Does anyone know if there is a regional planning commission in the Lehigh Valley?

New Jersey Wind Port Holds Groundbreaking, 1,500 Jobs to be Created

Really excited about this. Renewables are the future, it's great to have this in the area and be ahead of the curve.

Construction Underway At EEW-AOS, Nation’s Largest Offshore Wind Manufacturing Facility, In Gloucester County, NJ

The ongoing development boom in the greater Philadelphia region is not limited to new buildings sprouting around the city, nor is it even constrained to the surrounding towns and suburbs within the metropolitan area. In a way, it extends well into the Atlantic Ocean, where massive wind farms are on the drawing boards off the coast of southern New Jersey. A major milestone for local renewable energy has just been reached, as construction is now underway at the Phase 1 of the EEW-AOS monopile manufacturing facility at the Port of Paulsboro Marine Terminal in Gloucester County, NJ, located on the Delaware River across from the Philadelphia International Airport. The facility, the largest of its kind in the United States, will be used to assemble monopiles, which are gargantuan cylindrical supports for wind turbines.

The development is the first foray into the United States for EEW-AOS, a Europe-based group with a project portfolio spanning the globe. The project team also includes Ruggieri & Partners as the architect, Orsted & Rycon Construction as the construction manager, and The Harman Group as the structural engineer for the concrete foundation.

Amazon hiring 4,800 workers in Philadelphia region

"We're going to bring a thousand jobs to Southwest Philadelphia, to a community that hasn't seen job creation in generations, in a community that has been overlooked," Williams said.

It's times like this when I wish PA would get rid of our current structure and move more towards a county system. I do wonder if we will begin seeing more of this as things become more built out:



New developer seeking to build 598-unit apartment community at border between Whitemarsh and Conshohocken on the riverfront

Last week Whitemarsh Township sent out the agenda for a September 28th meeting of its planning commission. On the agenda is a proposal to construct a 598-unit apartment community along the riverfront on two adjacent properties that straddle the border between Whitemarsh Township and the Borough of Conshohocken.

From the agenda:

The agenda item is ZHB #2021-43, applications of KRE Acquisition Corp. for property located at 401 & 433 Washington Street. The Applicant proposes to construct a 598-unit residential apartment complex in four buildings on these two properties; the combined tract is located in both the Borough of Conshohocken and Whitemarsh Township, with the vast majority of proposed units in the Borough. All of the road frontage is in the Borough, though the majority of the riverfront area is in Whitemarsh (see the plans enclosed). The entire project site is approximately 11.2 acres in size. The 401 & 433 Washington Street properties are approximately 5.48 acres and 5.69 acres.

Yea, I mean the town has exploded in the past ~15 years. Traffic is an issue, at least before COVID. It could take me 30 minutes to go 1-2 miles to get out over the river. But at this point it comes with the territory.
