You are so right about the effect of removing the wood. It lent a touch of "naturalism" - fittting for a city whose economy started out on, and grew with wood, both in commerce and art.
Also, the wood panelling echoed this city's connection with nature, an example of those future HBC parkade supertalls, shaped like sea sponges (which are benign filter-feeders), and went well with the existing mall. / That "all white, new version seems an attempt to be "New Yorkish" and chic, but as you say, will be bland and sterile. The Place Ville Marie shopping centre is also rather black and white, but there, it comes off crisp and smart. (that French élan) This new PC Mall is just 'Anywheresville'' blaaa, in a way a travesty of what we still have - for the moment.

Having good lighting is more important than any of the other wall/ceiling treatment changes.

True. However, do you perceive that the mall as it is, under lit? If yes, does the wood contribute to anything underlit? Or do you not care for using wood here? Just a matter of taste

The upgraded lighting is probably just a switch to LED spotlights.
Looks like the wavy glass chandeliers are being removed (I dont see an LED replacement in the renderings).
Hopefully they will keep some plants in the mall.
CF has taken a lot of plants out of CF Toronto Eaton Centre.

From that photo of MNP tower, Harbor Centre in the background could do with a good scrubbing.

Yeah, I'm not sure what's there now.
I think there is a skylight above that escalator, so I'm not sure where it will be hung from.

The wavey lights are all along the mall corridor between each cove.

There may even be outlines from the old signage 20 years ago.

One more space...
Uniqlo does seem the same calibre though...
I wonder if a Nike or an Eataly would still be possible?

This is the Howe St. corner.
I figure a mezzanine will be inserted to create a 4th floor.
The arches do not relate to the building at all.

If Simons is moving in, if I were them, I'd push for an entrance from Howe where the former Eaton's employee entrance
was located just to the north on Howe.
Having the main entrance around the corner mid-block on Granville seems so far away from this juggernaut that'll siphon all the female shoppers in.
