Beautiful day today. I was out playing with my flying camera. I took some pictures of my favorite green roof - the top of the parking garage at the Dimensional Funds buildings on Loop 360 at 2244. Below are some pictures, and here are the rest: https://imgur.com/a/fi5zp

Man, that's an incredibly well-done rooftop park. I'd love to see more of that kind of thing in downtown.

Now, that's a green roof. It's almost as nice as the original terrain before it was destroyed for a parking garage.

I see you added Chicago to your location. Did you move there?

Wow, I had no idea that existed. I wish we would do that to all of our parking garages downtown and elsewhere - make the rooftops public parks! Great views, nice to look at from other buildings, and great use of space to an otherwise rather dead block.

Not sure if its "Open to the public"; but very accessible to the public.

Have been there multiple times on weekends.

Took a pano from Doug Sahm Hill in September of 2012 and took an updated one yesterday. Crazy the growth over just the last 5 years.

The more dense it gets the better it looks! It's amazing to see how much and how fast Austin is changing. When I left in 2008 it looked nothing like it does now that's for sure.

Of course if you or brando get your way, this park along the with the hill would be ripped up for a soccer stadium so consider what we would be losing before being so adamant about tearing it up.

Somehow I knew you'd chime in with that when I first saw this photo...

That's why I don't want Butler Park going away. It really is a great asset to downtown. I think we would be losing something special. I feel like there isn't really another park in the city that shows off the skyline as well as it does. Even Zilker is so-so since you're a bit further away from the buzz of the city. There's just something about it that resonates with me like I can feel the city while still being in a relaxing spot. There are two public spaces that have come along in the last decade that I was almost in disbelief that we were lucky enough to be getting. One was the boardwalk and the other was Butler Park. Up until then, we didn't really have any great public spaces for showing off our city. Waterloo Park will be nice, no doubt, but I feel like it'll serve more just in the area surrounding it on that side of downtown, especially once Brackenridge is redeveloped. It's even too far removed from East Austin, thanks to I-35, to invite those neighborhoods to it. I think a lot of people aren't even aware that it exists. And a lot the land around there isn't very inviting. That area of downtown is kind of a no man's land. Republic Square Park is ok, but it's a bit small. And Woolridge Square and Palm Park are hobo camps. No other park shows off the city like Butler does.

Well said. I would not trade it for a stadium.

Butler Park is my main stop when I visit downtown. Its my favorite place to park, stroll, and take in the view. I can't imagine Coa would be short sighted enough to replace it with anything. It's not going to happen. And if it does, I'll sign up to chain myself to....something out there to get in the way of the bulldozers.

guys, relax. butler park isn't going anywhere. butler shores is the "parkland" in question. and i doubt very many of you have a particularly strong feeling about some forgotten baseball/softball fields in a park you've never heard of.
