That's why I don't want Butler Park going away. It really is a great asset to downtown. I think we would be losing something special. I feel like there isn't really another park in the city that shows off the skyline as well as it does. Even Zilker is so-so since you're a bit further away from the buzz of the city. There's just something about it that resonates with me like I can feel the city while still being in a relaxing spot. There are two public spaces that have come along in the last decade that I was almost in disbelief that we were lucky enough to be getting. One was the boardwalk and the other was Butler Park. Up until then, we didn't really have any great public spaces for showing off our city. Waterloo Park will be nice, no doubt, but I feel like it'll serve more just in the area surrounding it on that side of downtown, especially once Brackenridge is redeveloped. It's even too far removed from East Austin, thanks to I-35, to invite those neighborhoods to it. I think a lot of people aren't even aware that it exists. And a lot the land around there isn't very inviting. That area of downtown is kind of a no man's land. Republic Square Park is ok, but it's a bit small. And Woolridge Square and Palm Park are hobo camps. No other park shows off the city like Butler does.
