Bad news for YXX:

Air Canada to discontinue Calgary flights out of Abbotsford airport

ABBOTSFORD - Losing Air Canada flights out of Abbotsford's airport is a huge setback for the local business community, said David D. Hull, executive director for the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce.

"This is our connection to the world," he said. "Having the YXX connections to Calgary and the rest of Canada is crucial to the development of a sustainable economy here."

Air Canada will end its three daily Calgary flights out of Abbotsford on May 31 "due to the route performance, which did not meet expectations," said the airline's Angela Mah.

The Abbotsford Airport Authority reported more than 500,000 travellers used the terminal last year, about 70,000 of them with Air Canada.

i can tell you that they will appreciate it.

after my 10 hour flight from NYC back to Vancouver (yes, 3 hours waiting to be cleared for take off)

i really really appreciated the beautiful fountains in YVR that greeted us there

yeah i got stuck in cincinnati airport for 8 hours and it was awful

when i used YVR i never got to see much arrived on a small plane from Salt Lake City and basically walked on the tarmac into the building where customs etc was

Flying United from Orlando to YVR via Denver is still my favorite airline/airport idiocy. Our flight arrived an hour and a half late and as we pulled in the plane we needed to catch was pulling away next to us in the adjoining gate. United stood by their line that it was our fault that we missed the flight, as if somehow we could have caught the flight that left as we pulled in if we had really wanted to. Idiots, all of them.

no offence, but it is the passenger's fault if they miss a connection. The staff at the gate wont cause another flight to be delayed simply to wait for passengers that are late on an inbound connection. it definitely sucks to miss a flight, especially one that you can see pulling away, but i wouldnt consider the airline staff idiots for not waiting for you

But usually the airline will put you on the next flight if you complain about it. Definitely if you missed the connection due to a United Flight being late.

i don't think airlines take things into account though

I flew from London to Cincinnatti and had one hour & 15 mins between my next flight

it took me a good 60 minutes to get through immigration and customs and by the time i got to the gate everyone had boarded and the guy was not wanting to let me on but he said ok but than security had to search me and my bag and my bag was locked for some reason i never meant to lock it anyway as they searched me shoes off belt off etc the two bag people just stood there never saying anything until i was done than they pipie in oh your bag is locked sir and the gate guy was like thats it you are not getting on this flight and sent the plane away and put me on the next one which ended up being delayed 8 hours

At least you got the next flight. I was flying with ATA to Washington, DC from Seattle and transferring in Oklahoma.

Because there's no central security in Oklahama, you have to go through security for every gate.

We misread the board and when we came back and saw the plane boarding realized something was wrong.

We couldn't get through security in time... we literally saw the gangway being pulled away.

Anyway, we said the electronic board was wrong (we actually thought it was until we realized it was our mistake) and asked if we could be put on the next flight. They, kindly, put us on the next flight... which unfortunately was the next morning...

Actually, we almost missed that one too...

I've actually never had to transfer in my life - and i've gone on like 20 flights. it must be a pain though. I hate transferring on SkyTrain even..

Its normaly not that bad. I had one bad experiance coming from Paris to Vancouver via Montreal. It was January and there was bad weather back East so my plane arriving from Paris was late getting in so I missed my connection to Vancouver. They told me the fastest way home was to go to Toronto and then to Vancouver. I was up like 30hours that day, it kinda sucked at the time but what can you do about the weather and it makes a good story now.

True. But hey, I was young and poor at the time.

But they did give pretty good customer service. And no-charge to take the next flight.

Actually, if you take RyanAir or EasyJet, that's one thing you need to watch for.

It's part of their strategy to charge userfees. That's how they recover a lot of their costs. They have no problem putting you on the next flight and charge a nominal fee... something like 50-80$ or something... much cheaper than a lot of airlines but will never do it for free like those other airlines (if you complain). You also close ticketing 45 minutes before a flight and won't let you on it if you're late. But they'll happily charge you to get on the next one.

i was flying on a Delta airlines buddy pass so i was safe no matter what happenned they would just have to book a seat on the next flight anyway - luckily but since i wasn't a normal ticket purchaser when i got to SLC i had to pay for my own hotel where as most of the people who were on the flight got vouchers for a free hotel stay - but i did get a good rate through their thing

Not sure about an 8-hour flight... but after a nine point five hour flight from Asia, I experienced that little room with the canoe just before the gates, I actually stopped and paused... it was so relaxing.

Tourists will just be excited to see their destination, but as a returning residents I felt much more at home.
