Yeah, I was excited when I seen the word 'trolley', then seen that CBC video I linked. Utter disappointment.

They should make it like a 'hop on, hop off' service like in New York or San Francisco and get a double decker bus.

I saw new trolley and, thinking they were talking about an actual trolley, my first thought was... ChrisChafe. lol.

I was doing cardio yesterday at Goodlife facing Water St. the traffic is idiotic. The street should be closed off for pedestrians only or at least a portion of it. It is absolutely ridiculous how many cars are down there FOR NO REASON! Doing laps upon laps just to drive around on water?! Gridlocked just because people like to drive downtown I suppose.

Man walking must be so HARD! There are always spots available if you are willing to walk 5-10mins.

That and people driving their sports cars. And people quickly accelerating and just as quickly breaking with their motorcycles.

I grew up in Paradise and St. Philips... people go DT on nice days just to drive around because tis perdy there

As much as I love downtown when I was bored I used to drive down, park, and walk, not admire from my car

My usual parking go-to parking places were Central Street (right behind John Cabot II building) and walking down the Mile One Steps. Or if parking was super hard to find (Ice Caps home game nights) I'd park at Victoria Park and walk....though that was a frightening walk to do alone after dark

I've only given away my top secret parking tips because I'm not in St. John's anymore. When I return and find people parking in my secret spaces I'll key your cars

I mean this makes sense .. it's great for a tourist hop on hop off service .. just got our hopes up for street cars

and it's not the same as that free thing that use to loop around duckworth and water st. .. it's specifically for going to tourist attractions .. I may even use it for the signal hill part lol if i'm feeling lazy then it goes to the rooms which is a short walk to my house hahaha

I don't mind the car traffic downtown as much as modded motorcycles/sport bikes constantly going up the roads every sunny day. Having worked downtown, it's hard not to notice how many of them rev wildly while rolling to stops in neutral or accelerating quickly at lights just to draw attention to their bike. These people appear to have very little interest in enjoying the view or any reason to be in the area; it seems they are just looking for a crowded place to show off their bikes and draw attention to themselves. It is frustrating when you're close enough to ground level that you can hear it from your office while trying to work, and I can't see tourists appreciating the noise either.

I have no issue with bikers in general, but it isn't respectful for them trying to create as much noise as possible in an area like that. There are many other roadways in St. John's to do that without bothering so many people (or anyone at all).

I was downtown on thursday with my family, we walked out of the yellowbelly and of course were met with over 30 bikes at least. The noise was so loud you could see people covering their ears, the bikers then turning their heads and smiling. Water street is a pretty enclosed space so that sound doesn't have much place to escape to, so it seems like its somewhat dangerous to have that happening there.

I'd be an advocate for banning loud motorcycles from water and duckworth. I don't know how the city could go about doing it but the problem needs to be dealt with somehow.

At the end of tonight's Council meeting there was some talk of the lack of work evident on the Team Gushue Highway extension. Seems the Provincial Government is doing a go-slow and no work has been done the past several months. Completion is likely to be now into 2016 and even into 2017. Such a piss-off as we badly need this work completed. There was a tender call for a couple of the over/underpasses but none for the major one at Topsail Road or Blackmarsh Road. It would be great if they could be working on ALL of the over/under passes at the same time but that seems unlikely. I don't believe they've even awarded the current tenders yet and we're now almost in July, so another season passing quickly. What's happened to any sense of priorities for the Prov Gov't ??

Urg. I hate road construction around here. With a PASSION. This road will make getting around the city SO much easier for me, and many others. I use it fairly regularly now and although it's a little bumpy, it's faster than going through the city. Imagine how fast it will be driving 100km/h on it as opposed to 30km/h. I doubt I'll live to see the day. Damn stupid planning/construction.

Yup, it's pretty smooth sailing from kenmount to topsail. They used to have people patrolling the road shooing people away but haven't seen any of them this year. And even if they did "catch" me, what's the worst they could do? Ask me to leave the road? That was my plan anyway hahahaha

But yeah, you can drive across it

Unless they have police officers it doesn't make much sense to patrol the road.
