Anybody hear anything about the Greyhound station move? I thought it was all but a done deal when Fargo mentioned it in her State of Downtown speech. That was a while ago.

Anything that comes out of Fargo's mouth is BS.

They need to build the building first. Nothing happens magically.

Okay that's what I was wondering... this proposed interim bus station would be new construction? I guess considering the Intermodal is probably a decade away from breaking ground, that's not entirely frivolous. But at what point in time and expenditure is it still beneficial for the City?

I noticed in looking at permits for the Greyhound station that there were two "monitoring wells" installed.... is that to analyze contamination of the site? As in for future development? Or is that some sort of standard maintenance?

What you see, is all that will ever be of the intermodal.

The new station would be on Richards Blvd next to the 300 Richards building (That I sadly just moved into ) Your timeline for the intermodal is about right from what I've heard.

Do (or did ) they have a filling station there? Never riden Greyhound into Sac or spent any time at the station. I'm not at all suprised if there is a remediation process happening at the current station.

We already have an intermodal station. How much that would be improved by the addition of Greyhound is questionable, but the current station already functions as an intermodal passenger depot.

Greyhound?

Besides RT and Amtrak what other transit agencies use the station?

Placer? Roseville? E Tran? El Dorado? Yuba? Solano? San Joaquin RTD?
None of the above. Yet those are some of the other transit districts which run buses downtown and none to the best of my knoweldge are able to use the SVTS.

urban: All they'd need to use the current station is a place to park: they already have a better bus turnaround. Considering that all of those transit agencies currently use only streetside stops, rather than any sort of central transit station in the central city, it is doubtful that they'd need a big new facility to relocate their end of route to the Sac Valley station. In fact, such a change would be trivially easy considering that all of those bus lines come within a couple blocks of the station.

So are you inferring there is no need for an expanded station as currently proposed? Although there are those that question how soon it would happen, I can't conceive of a reason not to build an expansion.

What I'm implying is that people are using the buzzword "intermodal" to mean a new station without understanding what that word actually means. Expanding the depot, remodeling it, relocating it or replacing it doesn't make it any more or less intermodal than it already is. "Intermodal" refers to the transit types that come to the station, not the physical layout of the station itself.

i don't think that those people are commenting on this board. I would presume most of the excitement about the future intermodal station would be about the DNA line being underway and the Greyhound being relocated. Those are two long anticipated projects. The DNA line means connecting to a brand spanking new SMF, the Greyhound relocation means a 31 story mixed-use high-rise, and the station is also anticipating high-speed rail, which is again, a huge development for not only the region, but for the entire state.

So the buzzword actually goes the distance when speaking of the future station - it means a lot more than a new building with a catchy name.

I brought it up because Urban Encounter made exactly that comment, as have others on this board. Plenty of other people do it too, which is part of why I tend to get grouchy about it.

The DNA line's construction and completion is a separate issue. What will happen on the lot where the Greyhound station sits is a separate issue.

Sure they're separate issues to resolve, but the end game arrives at the same station. That's my point... the intermodal is like the hub for all these big ideas. The station on is not much on it's own (as you've pointed out, it already exists), but in conjunction with the other plans, it's very big.

The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

Actually when I'm in Sac I too don't venture out of the City of Sacramento...I have nothing against suburban lifestlye, but if I want to hang out at the mall or go to some chain restuarant I'll just do it in Sac. I do go to the Grove on occasion since there isn't an electronic store (Best Buy) in south sac.
