Yeah, the south end of Calgary International Airport is only about 5.5 km from the Bow Tower. There's the very large airport lands and then not really any development beyond it to the northeast.

That's quite a contrast. Personally, I like it a lot. Very eclectic.

Sometimes I get the impression Calgary forumers want to downplay the city's rural roots & boomtown feel, as if it's as an embarassing feature. I think it's cool.
That's probably true actually, but in this case... the first area that looks like farmland is the small valley that the Deerfoot Highway is in, and the second area is actually the massive YYC. The areas beyond that are a mix of residential with farmland and a power plant (the red smoke stacks) behind it. It just looks like farmland because the city has a semi-arid(semi-desert) climate, so the grass turns brown and looks like wheat by the end of summer. That is one of the things I find really cool about Calgary actually!

There actually was farmland in some of those areas seen in the photo not too long ago. Much of the area around the airport is still open land with nothing on it.

^That's a crazy good shot!

Construction along the canal this week.

Roofs of the Windsor, the Marriott, Le 1000, and Place du canada.

Awaiting 6 new towers to plug this hole

Silo #5. The urban explorer's holy land.

Parking lot on Peel and St-Antoine. Barring any unforeseen problems a 120m office tower should rise here soon enough. The old building is the former central post office.

Lower Peel street is undergoing a major revamp these days

The north side of western Rene-Levesque, bleak as ever.

St-Jacques street at peel, looking east. The former RBC building will soon be obscured from view by a 95m luxury condo tower.

bonus. St-Jacques street at Bleury. Looking west. The former Canadian bank of commerce building has been renovated and converted into an arthouse theatre.

Can the public visit the top atrium space, or only if they are visiting an employee?

No, unfortunately it is only available to EnCana employees, family members, authorized personnel, and authorized tour groups. I'm hoping my buddy can get me on a tour group. I'll take a set of pictures so big it will crash the SSP servers lmao!

Here's a great pic of Calgary...

Those Montreal photos are absolutely gorgeous. Montreal's public realm is still unrivaled in Canada and one of the very best on the continent. Everything from the pavement, to the lamp posts, to the street sign is as good as it gets. And that backdrop of historic buildings doesn't get much better either. It's perfection.

Great set Martin! A few of these really capture the essence of the urban fabric that make old montreal such a gem.

Hey Chad, I think anyone who's an employee there can get you in, as long as they arrange ahead of time. My sister has taken some of her friends up there.
