Really glad to see this happening

There's a big-looking construction project at Clinton and 14th Place I noticed yesterday... looks like a highrise site with sidewalk scaffolding and everything. Apparently it will be a four-story data center by CoreSite. Judging by the way the jobsite is set up it should fill the lot, pretty massive building for that area.

No renderings but CoreSite has a definite aesthetic for their new builds. A little sleeker than the suburban tiltup box, with a dark gray metal panel facade and a decent amount of glass at the corners with sun shading louvers.

Probably the data center will run fiber conduit along the St Charles Air Line to the data hub at McCormick Place.

^^ I'm getting a slightly 1980's PoMo aesthetic from those matte panels with the revealed joints on Gems. (and the wacky color scheme)

It's just keeping with the first Gems Academy's design. I love it

Rahm is making ethics reforms in city council, one of which is reforming zoning decisions:

Quote:
The package proposes several steps to bring clarity and transparency to zoning and permitting actions. To avoid zoning matters from becoming indefinitely postponed, the package contains a proposal that would require the Committee on Zoning to take an up or down vote on all zoning map amendment introductions within six months, with the option for deferral only at the request of the applicant. Additionally, the package will require objections by an alderman to the issuance of a permit to be made in writing prior to the issuance of the permit and the alderman would be required to state substantive reasons for the objection.

This alone doesn't end aldermanic prerogative, but it's a start. This will certainly expedite many applications and ensure stalling won't occur

Northerly Island

Was out at Northerly Island last week and noticed a lot of construction in the field south of the concert pavillion. Does anyone know what they are building? Can't seem to find much online about it.

Nevermind. Found this article. https://chicago.curbed.com/2018/11/2...rtherly-island

This seriously can't be what they are tearing the crap out of the green space for?!

^ Friends of the Parks, where are you?

Either way, it'll probably be a good money generator

Given that it's a "temporary" exhibit they sure are doing a lot of construction. It's got a huge concrete pad poured so it doesn't seem that temporary. Can't imagine the money generation aspect being that lucrative given the upfront cost. Also seems like a pretty strange spot for a pop-up shop.

Speaking of Northerly Island, I wish someone would build something on top of the Adler lot...

Rahm is easily the greatest mayor in Chicago history and probably ranks up there among all mayors in all cities in US history. Too bad we are losing him, another term and he may have permanently rooted out the machine once and for all especially given Burke's recent downfall.

It's Friends of the Parking Lot, get it straight. As such they don't give a shit when actual parks are bulldozed for a museum. They just don't want their precious tailgating hangout vandalized.

^ The public blowback, should FOTPL interfere with Pop-culture's beloved Hamilton would be far greater than "resisting" an old, white billionaire George Lucas's monument to capitalism (the horror!). I am sure the FOTPL board is loaded with Hamilton die-hards anyway.

At the very least, it will indeed be a money-generator. Hopefully they'll be paying property taxes.
