"Automobile Pulled by Doves"

calisphere

"Two women pose in automobile decorated with garlands of greenery pulled by ribboned doves.

The women wear white dresses, hats, flower bouquets. Pasadena; ca. 1902."

I don't believe I have ever seen whole bouquets pinned to a blouse. I really like how that looks. (you know, instead of just a corsage)

And the flying 'doves'.......c'est magnifique!

'mystery' writing to the right of the door.

detail

I wonder if it's the name of the family that lives there; can anyone read what it says?

In the middle there appears to be a capital H with a slightly smaller capital G preceding it.

that's about all I can see.

T2 this is a pleasant view but as the Team prepares to go deep underground soon in search of the Lizardians, this could be the the above ground reality.

Here's a club we haven't seen on NLA.

old file / ebay?

There are two vintage buildings at 38th & Western where this club could have possibly been, but without a specific street number
there's no way to know for sure.

Club Nite Life
38th and Western, L.A.

Thanks Hoss! I'm surprised the club opened in 1958. I thought the photograph looked a bit older than that.

I saw this gif on reddit

Does anyone know what movie this is from?

The location definitely looks like the Los Angeles area.

p.s. I loved the story about your aunt parking the car in the garage sideways oldstuff. lol

That's no small feat!

The CDs of the early to mid-60s list something called Red Carpet at 3801 S Western Avenue, so I don't know if this interesting topless/bottomless event from the 20 August, 1964 issue of Jet took place there or somewhere else.

Thanks GW!

Lizzies of the Field [1924]

"A car becomes air-born while filming in Rowena Heights for a scene from “Lizzies of the Field” in 1924."

I believe Rowena Heights is near (between?) Los Feliz and Silverlake.

The young lady doesn't seem too pleased with the pick-up technique, and they swap places going through the Hill Street tunnel.

YouTube/Mack Sennett Comedies

I really enjoyed the race sequence - especially the log gag. I don't suppose anyone recognizes the new-looking twisty road through the hills.

The Regalettes' last garden party in Berkeley Square was in June 1960, again at #19--a house that saw much activity in the form of, among other families, the Halliburtons. Seen here is its second façade, which lasted until not long after that last Regalette party--it was soon to be, and remains, under the 10.

The full story of #19 is here

Hm. Chevy with a continental kit, spare missing. Broken rear window. Detective-looking guy with flashlight. Heavy Brylcreem user in trunk, not happy. Maybe that kid just learned that you can run but you cannot hide :-)

Cheers,

Earl

Photograph caption dated December 1, 1962 reads "A police officer and a young man were wounded early today in a roaring North Hollywood gun battle and chase that ended a 2 1/2-hour crime spree. Shot during the battle were police officer R. F. Schneider, 42, and Daniel Medina, 22, one of the suspects. Neither was seriously injured. Officers said the kidnaping (sic) victim, slender, 17-year-old Donald Tingley Jr., Sunland, escaped injury while locked in the trunk of his car in the midst of the gun battle around the vehicle."

I can't imagine what having the last name of Tingley would be like, but I like saying it.
