Wow that new SoCo hotel really does look like a 50 year old building. I see plenty of buildings with mid-century design, but this is so much like the actual old stuff... it's almost creepy. It looks like something we'd be calling for the demolition/redevelopment of if it was downtown.

Probably will look a lot better when the retail is in... and maybe with some lighting.

“About 60 attendees essentially representing about 50 companies were there,” George Tapas from URS Corporation reported to the commissioners. “It was very diverse. It included developers, construction firms, engineering firms and HUB contractors as well.”

Nice pictures, you two. I've noticed something funny about the roof of the library, and I wonder if it was intentional or not, but that angled structure on the roof sort of resembles an open book laying face down.

I haven't heard that, but it could be. Typically though, they will brag about architectural features like that to draw attention. I don't recall ever hearing anything about that, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything.

The tower portion of 48 East Ave looks much better, but the podium still needs some work.

This is the City's response to the Zuker Report. In this response a mention is made to a planned 'Grand Hotel' on Waller Creek. First I've heard of it.

Page 26 is where that is for anyone checking out the link. It has the Grand hotel as 47-stories and 699' on a list of Austin projects. A link to skyscrapercenter.com is included in the report as a source for at least some of the information.

Wait, wasn't the Fairmont once called the Grand Hotel? And wasn't it 47 floors and about 700'?

Seriously.... like the fairmont... it will probably be revised to a 40 foot parking garage with a 300 foot spire. hehehehe
