It can't be a demolition in progress.
I highly doubt it.

The crane on the site has already been erected for weeks now, which means site clearing and demolition was a long while ago.

Besides which, that looks like concrete (whether it's a shoring foundation wall or demolition remnant), and that wouldn't make sense since that site like all the neighbouring sites had a (almost certainly wood-frame) lowrise walkup prior to construction, and probably wood-frame construction for anything above grade.

It's possible it may have had a concrete underground parkade, but unlikely it would have been that deep,....and again.... also unlikely they would erect the crane while demolition was still on-going on the site.

In your first image the site is partially obscured by the two gold-glazed office buildings, but you can just about make out part of (what I think is) the pit at the top left corner

I'm not sure.
I haven't been down that side of Willingdon in a while and had no idea that they had even commenced site clearing.

If that's the case that's great to hear.

Yes, between that project and the proposed Wesgroup two tower project (below) just south of Modello, both should help in really beginning to build up that southern side of Willingdon.
( I can't remember which project that other tower is between them (The Standard and the Wesgroup towers)

Yup - just checked Google maps - there were just houses there before.
Strange about that tall wall - could just be a windowless party wall
for the future abutting development.

I like the designs on those towers but it'd be awesome if they were 25-50% taller.

Central BLVD & Nelson Avenue. This one will be a tall one. Probably deserves it's own thread...

Do you mean Imperial and Nelson - Central connects with Imperial just over a block away from Nelson.

......
It's been brought up before (see below)

It used to be 'Willingdon' before they renamed it to 'Nuvo'.

It was proposed for 44 storeys tall..

No dedicated thread yet since they're still in excavation and site clearing phase and probably weeks away from the crane being erected.

Note the 63 storey tower in Metrotown (with a stupid name).
Not sure where the site might be.

An update (puff piece of marketing) on this proposal

Quote:
Location always matters when buying a home because it influences how you live, work and play. Proximity to transportation links, recreational amenities and shopping facilities are typically priorities on new condo buyers’ checklists, as are architecture, interior design, and value. Contour, SVM Developments and Kirpal Group’s proposed 24-storey building on Maywood Street in Burnaby includes all those considerations, says Key Marketing’s sales director, Chris Scully.

The site at 4330 Maywood St., just a few minutes walk from the Metrotown SkyTrain Station, is on the edge of a high-density zone in Burnaby’s Metrotown area and Contour, with its terracing on the south side of the building, is designed to merge into the neighbouring zone with its six-storey height limit.

Designed by GBL Architects, Contour will be built above a five-level underground parkade. The development comprises 91 one-, two- and three-bedroom condos for sale; rental homes on levels three to five; street level retail space and the second storey designated for office space. Scully says office space will be sold, with some parcels as small as 450 square feet which could be convenient for residents who live in Contour to also have a “home” office in the building. The sale of office space will be launched later this year, he adds.

SVM Developments and Kirpal Group’s Contour PNG

...

Construction is scheduled to start later this year with completion in spring 2025, says Scully.

Project: Contour
Project address: 4330 Maywood Street, Burnaby

Developer: SVM Developments; Kirpal Group
Architect: GBL Architects
Interior designer: GBL Architects

Project size: 24 storeys
Number of bedrooms: one-, two- and three-bedrooms
Price: Starting from mid-$600,000s

Sales centre: 6968 Royal Oak Avenue, Burnaby
Centre hours: 12 noon to 5 p.m. daily (closed Fridays)

Alaska + Akimbo + Gilmore Place (Fulton House for scale). Taken Sept 16.

I think from far away Akimbo doesn't look too bad, it's only up close it gets kinda wonky looking.

Oh, I didn't realize Alaska was going to be such dark tower. It will be interesting to see it go up.

I hope more will get built in this corner of Brentwood, as it is currently a mess of big bushes and old warehouses.

This one's flown under the radar.
I didn't realize it had gotten this far along.

Thanks for the great pics, Lexus.

It ended to be done properly. No rusted fences. It seem like they been pained or anodized

Haven't had a chance to go by recently but I assume there's a lot of progress with the new Electronic Arts buildings in Burnaby?

A minor update on The Standard (6468 Willingdon)
Quote:
The Standard is an elegant 43 storey residential tower in Burnaby’s vibrant Metrotown neighbourhood and is the residential gateway to Metrotown Skytrain Station, Central Park and Metropolis at Metrotown. Design forward with a classic white pallet and vertical banding, The Standard anchors the busy growing Burnaby skyline with a clean architectural approach. Comprised of 424 efficient junior one to four bedroom and den condos and townhomes, homes range from 425 to 1,706 sf in size and are designed with a West Coast inspired pallet. Over 22,000 square feet of robust interior and exterior amenities at The Standard cater to an active and social demographic.

The Standard's site also includes this large map showing a future convention centre and entertainment district basically where the bus loop is now.

Has this grown few floors? I thought The Standard was going to be 40 storeys. Be it as it may, great to read there being few 4 bedroom units as well.

They are currently excavating the site with no crane yet.
