I’m being hypocritical since I got a rotation of Chicago team flags hung on my balcony (my HOA is relaxed). But I’m not fond of seeing “patio junk” on highrises.

^^^

Honestly, I wish more residents of these buildings would put plants on the balconies.

When I lived in Marina City, we had a couple of chairs, a small table, and a grill. 7-8 months out of the year, the (now) wife and I had dinner on the balcony. She would have breakfast out there in the summer as if it was a religious experience every morning in the summer. Having that balcony was like adding another room onto our relatively efficient 750 square ft 1-bedroom apartment.

To each their own. I personally love the fact that it's a place where people actually live given its location. It also adds some great color to truly unique structures. Those buildings are beautiful in their own right.

yeah. and i only had a 500 SF studio when i lived there, so the 200 SF balcony was even that much more psychologically big to me.

marina city has to have one of the biggest balony to unit size ratios in the world. i mean, it's not often that you come across high rise units where the balcony is 40% the size of the unit.

i dearly miss my old marina city home.

New renderings I don't recall seeing on here for the 10 story Rush Outpatient expansion between Harrison and Congress on Ashland Ave. The bridge over Ashland from the current hospital will be a major change for Ashland Ave going N or S.

"The 10-story, state-of-the-art outpatient care center building will include a six-story, above-ground parking garage for patients and a fourth floor Main Street pedestrian bridge over Ashland Avenue that will connect it to the Tower. Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2019 with the installation of a “sleeve” under Ashland Avenue that will house the building’s utility piping, with an estimated completion of the building in 2022."

I do like how the new base for the Sears respects the original design so well.
