The bar is set low for a major city in Canada. Any city which most Canadians have heard of is a major city.

I completely understand what you wrote. In fact, even Italians prefer the Mediterranean climate and it is even more normal that Canadians, who live in very cold and snowy territories, love hot and arid climates. But I just want to make it clear that climates where summer temperatures are very high and where every year there is a long period of drought, cause many economic, social and environmental problems.

The only temperate zone desert in Canada is in the southern interior of BC. Deserts for us are exotic, and we associate them with the southwestern US, and exotic cities like Las Vegas and Phoenix.

Deserts are the antipole of typical Canadian coniferous forests of the shield and the frozen tundra of the arctic. They are far removed from moderate Maritime climates and the humid farmlands of the great lakes region and the St. Lawrence river valley.

We find them intoxicating.

There apparently were good northern lights last night. This was from about 2 AM, from cottage country north of the city (Grande Digue).

The peak our here was around midnight. Had no energy left to go out. But have similar shots from back in May. Ill watch for alerts again tonight and may go out. May use a 50mm lens this time. Also still some of the Persius Shower happening. so may get some interesting shots.

Temp wise, high 20s to 30s all weekend. saturday evening was 25 and a perfect night to site in the stands and watch a baseball game. Riverhawks had about 7500 fans out.

Looks like hot and dry again all this week.

Out on my annual Elk Island NP bike ride yesterday. Crops look pretty good but are staring to ripen.

Lets hope warm and Dry temps next week while I'm in the Niagara region.

Also forgot to ask how was the Regatta

As for a bad comparison - yah, it’s just an anecdotal comparison, but personally I can’t handle humidity, might as well be -40C. I also like my summers rain free although that does come at a cost - dry grass, forest fires and seagull shit everywhere that doesn’t get washed away.

So I looked back to last year for Toronto as this year has been quite rainy.

June 2023 - 108 mm, 13 days with rain
July 2023 - 103.8 mm, 18 days with rain
August 202 - 59.2 mm, 11 days with rain

Victoria:

June 2023 - 18 mm, 3 days with rain
July 2023 - 11.4 mm, 1 day with rain
August 2023 - 6 mm, 5 days with rain

So it’s probably just my skewed perspective of rain being a rarity in the summer months that makes the amount Toronto and other Ontario/Quebec cities seem extreme.
Facts! Sweet
Ya I agree rain and thunderstorms ruin sporting events and camping trips.
BC is lucky it’s got Junuary for lots of rain right before the reliable and predictable hot sunny summers. What summer is supposed to be.

We hit a high of 24C in Toronto, with a large downpour a few hours ago. Its been sunny since then, and is now cloudy. There's a 30% chance of further rain tonight, and are still hanging near that high. I'm only going for brief errand runs today, but otherwise staying home....I captured this a few minutes ago from the comfort of my room

Weekend was not summer. Thankfully it has started to warm up again.

Got some hail yesterday for 20 seconds and then 10 seconds 15 minutes later.

Also, mushrooms growing on top of a mushroom for some reason.

Didn't need any air conditioning today, which was nice.
Overcast, dry and feeling a bit cool compared to most recent days.

Monday's high at Vancouver Harbour was 19 C, the low was 17 C.

15C and partly cloudy in Moncton at 8 AM, going up to 26C this afternoon with a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon.

Tropical Storm Ernesto

Soon to be hitting Puerto Rico, then Bermuda. The current trajectory suggests eastern NS and Newfoundland may be at risk.

Although currently a tropical storm, it is strengthening, and, at the end of the current forecast period is predicted to be a CAT-2 storm.

^ Sea surface temperatures off the coast of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland are running anywhere from 3 to 5 degrees above average. Not nearly warm enough to sustain a hurricane of course, but warm enough to slow its weakening.

28C with a humidex of 31 and sunny. Close to perfect. Only thing is I would like it a bit more humid (the dryness is immediately felt on the skin).

Low of 16C this morning.

The warmspot was Peawanuck, ON at 33.4C.

Warmest low was Western Island, ON and George Island, MB at 19.7C.

We hit a high of 26C in Toronto today, with sunny skies until the evening, when it became overcast. I was downtown in the morning, then went stewarding in the evening, getting to better know the trees in my local river valley. I took these on my walk there this evening.
