Future Mayor, if the resorts could actually get that done or show progression towards it in the next couple years I bet that would help our 2026 Olympic bid out a lot. Not only good for a future Olympic bid but also huge for visitors hoping between resorts. Would put the Wasatch resorts on a hole new level for awesome.

Your right Steven. That would make any of Salt Lake's future competitors for the Olympics seem very underwhelming. Outside of the European Alps, there would not be anything like it in the world. Even the connecting Whistler/Blackcomb would be small in comparison, and they don't have Salt Lake's major metro proximity or quality snow.

I would much rather seen the wise development of an interconnect, as long as it is combined with measures to curtail auto traffic, which often jams the canyons during peak season. I almost would like to see a similar program instituted for Little and Big Cottonwood Canyons that is in place at Zion's National Park.

Yes, that's why I put a forward slash there. Please correct me though, if I'm not being grammatically pc. Whistler/Blackcomb together is now officially the biggest and it has a great village, but it's not as cool as Park City, or as posh as Deer Valley. Also, as you've probably heard, the snow especially at the base half can be pure crap a lot of the time. Though not official, many people just out of pure convenience consider Park City/The Canyons/Deer Valley to be a one package vacation deal. The three combined are bigger than Whistler/Blackcomb or Vail/Beaver Creek.

Trader Joe’s, the neighborhood grocery store that has developed a cult following of crazed fans who like its organic foods and branded goods, is opening a second Utah location in Cottonwood Heights.

The store will begin construction this summer at 6989 S. 1300 E., the site of a former Fresh Market grocery store; it is scheduled to open some time in the first half of 2015, the Monrovia, Calif., company announced Wednesday morning.

I'd rather it be someplace more in the urban fabric of things, but I'm pleased that they're repurposing an old crappy building instead of building a brand new one. And glad that Trader Joe's first location is doing well enough that they want to build more.

That's awesome! It's right by my parent's place. I got them hooked on Trader Joes while they were visiting me in Portland. Trader Joes has so many addictive food products: Vanana Yogurt, Strawberry Coconut Ice Cream, Indian food microwave dinners, Coconut Cookie Thins, and so much more. Yumm!...

In a steady stream, thousands of Utahns toured the new Loveland Living Planet Aquarium on opening day Tuesday, where the Draper facility’s 300-space parking lot was at capacity by midafternoon, said Suzy Broadbent, marketing and public-relations director.

By 2:45 p.m., the aquarium had counted about 2,500 visitors

"I think people have been waiting so long, they just can’t wait to see what’s inside that big, glowing building," said Broadbent of the aquarium, formerly located in a much smaller space in Sandy.

A lot of the visitors were children, who mostly appreciated the viewpoint they received of the 5,000 animals, thanks to the clarity of the facility’s large glass windows.

"There were some screams of excitement, and some screams of ‘I think the fish is going to touch me,’ " Broadbent said...

...On Tuesday, Broadbent said, the highlight of the aquarium seemed to be the shark tunnel, where visitors were able to watch sharks, turtles and other sea life swim right over their heads.

Am I the only one that wishes I had a couple of tens of millions of dollars just sitting around that I could build an Aquarium downtown, where is belongs, and show the owners of Living Planet that being downtown would be so much better and they would attract so many more tourists.

I have some acquaintances having their wedding there in the summer and I'm debating if I'll go, simply out of spite for the location the aquarium choose.

I am with you FM. I would love to have an aquarium downtown where it can be used by more than those that drive.

I know that the current location is in an area that is growing but it will never have the pedestrian traffic, non-local visitor traffic that would make it a bigger success.

I have many thoughts that in the next 10 years they will be begging to move to the downtown area just to take advantage of those people that won't make the long drive to the current location.

It is also one reason that I am hopeful of rail being extended to at least Sunnyside in SLC so that a shuttle bus can bring people from rail to the Zoo. It would further increase patronage.

Right now, I'm just going to be content that they pulled it off, and it's a huge improvement over what they had in Sandy. Also at this stage, even before probable future additions, it's one of the biggest and finest on the continent.

That said however, I do hope that someday when Future Mayor or someone has the funds, they will turn this into a nice office/warehouse and build a showplace Downtown.
