That would likely be an issue, yes. And what league?

The Jays used to have a farm team in Medicine Hat - Pioneer League, Rookie Level. Travelling from Winnipeg to places like Montana and Idaho would be crazy, though.

Perhaps they could join the Low-A Mid-West League, playing teams in Wisconsin, Michigan, etc. Same issue, though - travel.

Yeah, they're doing just fine so leave it alone.

It would be cool if there were teams in Thunder Bay and Regina. Could be a nice little rivalry. I'm pretty sure Thunder Bay had a professional team back in the 80s or 90s.

Now back to skylines...

Baseball stadiums tend to orient towards a certain direction because of the sun. All MLB stadiums are oriented from due North to about Southeast. None face West.

If you turned Shaw Park in Winnipeg towards the skyline, it would face due West. Straight into the sun for the batter. Could be dangerous at certain times of the day for a batter.

Really a missed opportunity in Winnipeg.
That's amazing. I think they had a lot of empty space on the other side of teh river so it's the perfect spot for stadiums. Since the river is narrow it provides great views.

That pic made me checkout Pittsburgh some more and man their CBD is wonderful. So compact, nice buildings, nice bridges, triangular layout etc. But it's so cut off from the rest of the city. The rivers are on two sides of the triangle, and then someone thought it was great idea to build a freeway on the third side. Makes the CBD kind of like an island.

In the American Association. Teams currently stretch all the way to Dallas, so I don't think travel in any MLB-affiliated league would be any more of an issue. Especially given that MLB teams fund a ton (if not all, I'm not sure) of their minor league teams' expenses.

Thunder Bay's baseball team in the 1990s was the Whiskey Jacks, they were in the Northern League which was an upper midwest US league not affiliated with the MLB. It was that league's only Canadian team.

Our current team is the Border Cats, which are in the Northwoods League, a collegiate league based in Minnesota/Wisconsin. It's the only Canadian team in that league, as well.

The highest league sport here is actually soccer. The Thunder Bay Chill plays in the Premier Development League, which is below MLS and USL. We're one of the smallest markets in that league and in the same division as Chicago, Winnipeg and St. Louis.

Would be really nice if they took the bit of parking along the roadways and put in some shallow storefronts for cafes and shops, and left the parking in behind.

Ballpark Orientations in the National League
Major League Baseball clearly states in rule 1.04 "THE PLAYING FIELD: It is desirable that the line from home base through the pitchers plate to second base shall run East Northeast." The location of the owner's boxes, prevailing wind directions, and a multitude of other reasons have caused rule 1.04 to be ignored by Major League baseball teams. Baseball Almanac is pleased to present a National League ballpark orientation chart designed to illustrate the actual layouts.

A nice pic of The Kelowna Skyline.

Currently a 36 story tower is UC just to left of the newest tower completed and a 29 story tower is almost sold out and will also start constriction soon in the same area.

Throw me tomato if you want, but this place looks like a bit more of a resort, than a city
Otherwise, the landscapes there are simply beautiful !

That`s because Kelowna is.

Many condos/apts and even some homes are either leaseholds or time-shares. Kelowna, like all of BC, has built it`s economy around housing and definately not for the locals. These condos and big houses are built in one of the poorest cities in the country.

There was a funny thinly-veiled real estate ad in a paper here about Millennials fleeing to Kelowna for the cheap real estate. It was advertising sub-1,000 square foot condos in downtown Kelowna for over $600,000. Unfortunately nowhere in BC is really affordable to the typical potential home buyer anymore unless you want to move to a town so remote and undesirable that you'd be better off leaving the province. Kelowna and Victoria are expensive compared to most of Canada.

It is a pretty area but Kelowna mostly developed in an auto-centric way after WWII, which I guess goes hand in hand with being a bit of a resort town. There weren't many people who could afford to go live in the Okanagan for the summer in 1950. It was a small town before then, I guess a service hub for farms in the area. It reminds me a lot of Central Valley towns in California.

The cities have diverged since 1980 or so but Vancouver and Winnipeg used to have a lot of very similar development since they boomed during the same period right after the railway was built. They both got railway hotels, Hudson's Bay department stores, etc. Both have large neighbourhoods of similar prewar 20th century detached wooden houses (which are now worth $2M in Vancouver; well, they're worth -$40,000 and sit on land worth $2.04M ), plus some old masonry apartments mixed in.

Public Gardens and Spring Garden Road area of Halifax. Probably last summer (or maybe 2016?) based on the big construction hole on the left.
