If you have a fake passport that is good enough to fool a scanner it will probably fool CBSA too.

Even though I am extremely unlikely to vote CPC in the next election, I see MonctonRad's approach as a completely rational evolution.

It's certainly much more rational than blindly excusing and justifying the obvious failings of our current government simply because they happen to wear one's favourite political colour on their lapel pins.

I was merely commenting on the "drinking of the Koolaid" mentioned by Otac.
I'm definitely not excusing/justifying the obvious failings of our current government. If you can find some posts of mine that you think fall into this category, by all means, call me out on it. No matter what, I am not voting for the CPC, but I am also very unlikely to vote Liberal this time around, so long as Trudeau is at the helm.

Come on it's so obvious!!!

In fact, since you seem to be the only one who has noticed this - namely that the CPC encourages the beating of children - you should make it your primary focus until next election to ensure that every Canadian is aware of their position!! For if you didn't, some might even go so far as to say that since you knew of their position and didn't make sure every other Canadian knew, that perhaps you too encouraged the beating of children!
And while the Conservatives favor child abuse, the Federal Liberals actually want people to die — one of their Ministers being on record saying the road network is fine as is:

And don't we already have NEXUS for faster border clearance?
At first sight I agree with you, but giving it some thought, I think one way it could work really well is that you interact briefly with a machine that monitors you for signs of stress, the way a lie detector works. Then the cases that “triggers the lie detector” get flagged for further questioning by a human.

The humans where I cross the border are basically machines anyway, they let me in and out almost automatically

JT has got to go, even if it means PP becomes PM.
You think it would be too cheeky on PP’s part to proudly proclaim “Canada is finally back!” on the day he gets elected with a majority and JT gets dumped?

Looking at the poll trends and it looks like after plateuing for a bit the CPC's longterm trend line has start to climb again. I assumed that anyone who would suuport them is already doing so, but now I wonder if there is more support for them to uncover.

I heard an analysis the other day that said in 2015 a lot of conservatives didn't bother showing up to the polls because they didn't like Harper anymore but couldn't get themselves to vote LPC.

This time around it could be the opposite, where a lot of disenfranchised Liberals stay home. If thats the case it's very possible that the CPC gets a popular majority as well.

This is pretty much status-quo for Canadian politics. There isn't much use in getting worked up over it, as this is the cycle that's been repeating for decades. "Diaper is full!" and all of that.

I also continue to be surprised by PP's rise, but I still think that getting 50% of the popular vote is almost impossible. The last time it happened I think was Mulroney 1984, but back then we had fewer major parties, and the PC, LIB and NDP vote combined was 97% of all votes. No fringe party got more than 1% of the vote.

Today you have the Bloc, Green and People's Party all getting decent percentages of the vote.

Sit it out then there’s no right to complain. At least cast a protest vote for someone, the Greens maybe.

OK so not quite SkyNet. But rather SkyNet used by humans against other humans.

There goes the entire Liberal backpocket strategy...

Canadians doubt Trudeau is best leader to handle a second Trump term
https://www.bnnbloomberg.ca/canadian...term-1.2035868

Quote:
Canadians are skeptical of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s ability to negotiate with Donald Trump if the former U.S. president returns to power, a new poll found.

Only 28 per cent named Trudeau as the political leader who would do the best job of dealing with Trump, even though the Canadian prime minister has experience — his government managed the renegotiation of the North American trade deal during Trump’s first term.

Almost 40 per cent said Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre, who’s known for his combative public persona, could better handle Trump. A further 25 per cent didn’t see any difference between the two leaders, according to the poll conducted by Nanos Research Group for Bloomberg News.

I doubt either JT or PP could effectively "handle" the Trumpster a second time around. Trump is now completely rogue, and while some people did their best to control his worst impulses during his first presidency, there will be nobody around the second time to keep him from making catastrophic and impulsive decisions.

The best thing Canada can do during a second Trump presidency is to keep it's head down and try to remain as inconspicuous as possible. We do not want to make ourselves a target.

He will not be controlled by a Canadian PM but the way to adapt is to "keep the powder dry" and act nimbly, maintaining fiscal and other capacities. We can consider how much the JT government has done this over the past few years.

To be fair, I think most Canadian governments tend to handle the US rather deftly. It's really the only foreign relation we're required to be good at.

Back when she was just trade minister, and not the finance minister and Deputy PM, I thought that Chrystia Freeland did a pretty good job salvaging the USMCA with decent provisions for Canada after Trump tore NAFTA apart.

FWIW, I think Biden is a more dangerous president to Canada's economic fortunes than Trump was, at least in the short term.
