The city ought to just wrap some more retail along lower Wacker there and use that huge space as a giant cafe patio. Its got great views, and people would absolutely sit there to drink their coffee/tea/wine/what have you.

This nonsense just looks like amateur hour. Send this crap back to Sioux Falls or East Moline.

Clearly they ran out of money and this is temporary. Eventually it will be redone, but I wouldn’t get too worked up over it

I don't understand why the city doesn't partner with SAIC, or at the very least appoint people form there to make these decisions. One of the best art schools in the country is right there, waiting to be asked...

Maybe the city is using reverse psychology. Make it look so bad someone might want to donate funds so they won't have to look at this again

Looks like a picnic tent after a tornado hit.

I still feel like that's where they're thinking the aerial gondola station will go.

If they wanted to do that, they should just tear up the sidewalks, remove all landscaping, and let it become overgrown with weeds.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the other side of the gondola would be at Navy Pier.

Better yet a small little strip mall with a convenience store, dry cleaner, and a hair or nail salon with some parking between the stores and sidewalk. That'd drive folks absolutely insane.

Is that installation permanent? It's pretty much engineering 101 that you need a certain degree of curve in hung fabric to avoid wind resonance. Those sail installation things will tear themselves apart. And they look really haphazardly placed. Almost at random.

Are those old forks and spoons on the fence lol?
Seriously, I can't believe that a full time person on the city's salary hired a professional artist and this is the best they could come up with.
I could of just went to home depot and picked up some lawn chairs and tables, and got a half dozen students from Columbia to come by on the weekend, and come up with something better.

I suppose they don't want anything good, as this area isn't permanent. And when they come up with the money, or rich corporate sponsor to pay for some good art here, no one will care when this junk goes away. But it does make this area embarrassing to look at in the meantime.

I'd love to see a larger version of the sculpture in the lobby of the Inland Steel Building, Radiant One by Richard Lippold done in a park in Chicago. It's really futuristic looking and beautiful.

From the first it has looked like they couldn't stretch it properly and just tied off the loose ends. My scouts could (and do) a much better job, for free.

Just build a giant glass cube like the Fifth Avenue Apple Store and put the art inside

Okay. 2 things -

1. No. This isn't permanent. Just like the giant deer was not permanent. It is an effort to activate the woefully undeveloped west end of the River Walk.

2. LMGTFY - Good lord people. The artist's name is right there. He lives in Chicago. He has an MFA from the School of the Art Institute. He has gallery representation. You might not like his work (I am somewhat indifferent), but you all come off like a bunch of yahoos. Know what you are talking about so you can express an informed opinion.
