Even homes and businesses that were out of the way were demolished to make room for ramps, feeder roads, bike paths and parkland. The Huron Church corridor looked pretty desolate for a while.

It took 15 years to get approval for the project in Windsor. It's inconceivable that would fly in downtown Vancouver.

I think if there is going to be a tunneled freeway in Vancouver it'll probably have to be more like A-720 in Montreal than the 401 in Windsor. I.e, a real tunnel, bored deep under the city, not the cut and cover tunnels used here in Windsor (which, as nice as they are, are more like really big overpasses).
Point taken (re: tunnels saving above ground infastructure). Just for clarification, Boundary Road does not go through downtown Vancouver, rather it forms the border between Vancouver and Burnaby. It would not improve access to downtown but serve as an urban bypass for Hwy 99.

A north-south oriented tunnel that would end at TCH 1 where it enters Vancouver and heads towards the north shore. It would be a north-south corridor for Hwy 99 that would link to the Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal and Whistler. I've attached a crude reference map:

As an aside, the BC government is constructing the "Caribou Connector" between Cache Creek and Prince George by twinning Hwy 97. As TCH 1 between Cache Creek and Hope can't really be widened (hence why the Coquihalla Hwy exists), a 4 lane link could theoretically be constructed between Cache Creek and Whistler via Hwy 99. The terrain would make that project very expensive.

Here's a look at what our staff see in the Traffic Mgmt Centre; staff monitor & can adjust sequence if needed. For the Pan Am Games, 68 traffic cameras have been installed at 50 spots between McMaster & the stadium

Did someone forget about the highway between Espanola and Sudbury? I was happy with the surface quality and overall condition of 17...until that point. It reminds me of Empress Street in Winnipeg, and that's not a good thing.

That section badly needs upgrading as well...it should be 4 lanes where it isn't now (it is a freeway from Whitefish to Lively).

well worth the watch. Quebec has great topography and the video editing is great.

Wow, those two last vids by Bulliver & FRANKS are showing what I assume to be two of the best 'drives' in Canada. I've driven on the 138 & 362 in Quebec a bunch of times, and it truly is a spectacular route. They don't make highways that hilly anymore !

Those are both fantastic videos. How far up the Alaska Highway did you go bulliver? I'm feeling serious nostalgia for the Yukon right now (yes, I know that was filmed in BC).

If I don't do a Baffin Island Trip next year I will be doing a Whitehorse Road trip. I have driven sections of the highway from YEG to WH but not the full run.

I do Edmonton-Whitehorse and back once a week. Many more vids to come if I ever find the time to edit them.
