For what it is worth, here are some floor plans I received from the LSE Sales office:

Thank you for your interest at Aqua. Please see the attached floor plans.
We do have one two bedroom left with SE exposure (06) on the 58th floor.
The two plus den (08 floor plan) is available on floors 62 thru floor 65. The two bedroom with NW exposure (02 floor plan) are available between floors 60 thru 69. The one bedroom witn NW exposure (03 floor plan) are available between floors 53-55. Those are designer finishes units. Please check our web side www. lakeshoreeast.com for views.Currently we are taking reservations for units. Call Leila at 312.493.8200 to schedule an appointment.

Some of those terraces look quite roomy.

^before you buy a two bedroom, you should probably ask about the "twin" building that the developer is considering, and how it might affect your view. As I recall from my visit to the sales office, they may be building another tower just to the south of Aqua, and I believe that many, if not all, of the 2 bedrooms are facing south. This possible second tower could affect your view and impact your resale value.

That second tower has been part of the plan for quite some time now. I don't think they are considering whether or not they will build there, just when and how tall.

I think you are right, spyguy...my only point was that the sales person told me that there was a strong likelihood, not a certainty, that it would be built. And if it is built (and I have no doubt that it will be...since when does a sales rep give you a reason NOT to buy in her building unless the twin will be built) will it be directly to the south of Aqua, or a little to the southwest. Either way, south views are impacted, perhaps blocked. For this reason alone, I would not purchase a south facing apartment in Aqua. Others might not care if there view is blocked by a cool looking tower.

I would buy a North facing unit for the views of DT (and the spire?). But at 600K for a 1 br + den up to 800K for a 2 br, the prices are too far out of my reach. I would reserve one if I could get a 1 br + den for around 400-500k. We'll see what happens if I can make it to the sales center.

^by the way, they require 10% down. And I was told prices will increase by a minimum of 22% during the development period. I would be surprised if prices were not increased even more than that.

True. Originally I thought that the two tallest towers would share the land between them more equally, but Aqua's huge-ass amenities park (or something like that) threw that thought out.

i don't think anyone has mentioned this yet, but aqua got a mention in the record news section of this month's issue of Architectural Record. the aqua article doesn't offer up any new info that we don't already know, but it's cool to see this spectacular project make some waves on the national architecture scene.

we've been waiting decades for a skyscraper like this.

This makes it sound as though sales are going exceptionally well. Maybe the "twin" will turn out to be a big brother?

That canopy looks completely unbuildable, but I hope they prove me wrong.

The new renderings are much more convincing than the old ones, although the very rectangular base seems at odds with the rest of the building. It would be nice if they could reconcile the curve vs. square issue in a more complimentary way, as they have done with the tower.

Overall, however, I think this tower may not be as hideous as the bulbous Reader renderings made it out to be. It reminds me of a mixture of Marina City and 320 W. Oakdale (

), two of my favorite Chicago high-rises.

Strategic Hotels & Resorts wants to build a 200-room hotel in the Lakeshore East development, south of the Chicago River and east of Columbus Drive, says CEO Laurence Geller. He says the Chicago-based REIT, which owns the Fairmont and InterContinental, aims to flag the hotel with "one of the very high luxury brands of the world," and is talking to Magellan Development Group, developer of Lakeshore East. ^I hope the hotel is something other than the Fairmont or Intercontinental. I hardly consider those one of the "very high luxury brands in the world". They are nice hotels, but they are clearly second tier.
