Can someone remind me what the plans are for the current, ugly 1-story building across the street from this project on JFK are? Less "innovation corridor" and more "prison block" vibes...

^ Things traditionally have never moved fast around here. Old habits die hard. It wasn't until the late 80s that the commercial center moved to West Market. Decent small business/retail/restaurant options took some time after that to materialize. Honestly, working in Commerce Square in the mid-nineties still had an isolated feeling to it. It took even longer for the center of gravity to move further west and for Center City to make the jump across the river (and for Penn/Drexel to start pushing toward it from the other side). Once that happened, things moved pretty quickly for the larger scale projects (as it did along West Market). Now, as then, there's still a bit of a lag before the neighborhood starts to feel complete.
i can't remember 3+ floors looking so huge. this area is going to feel incredibly different really soon, which is a very, very good thing.
i am very out of the loop, but i'm assuming the megabus/bolt bus/etc. situation is a disorganized nightmare on the side of the road somewhere near this section? are we holding out hope that maybe some sort of bus depot will go in north of 30th street station once the schuylkill ave work is fully completed? or once the 30th st. renovations are complete? that would go a looooong way to making the area both convenient and gorgeous for people coming in by train.
mcgrath, get some dirt now that you're a septa insider B-)

Megabus/Bolt moved to Schuylkill Ave near Walnut. This seems to be their point of ops for the foreseeable future.
