Well that's not what I was expecting. Maybe its highly reflective black glass that looks like mirror because of the angle, but it doesn't look black to me.

It seems to be the color(s) of whatever it is reflecting.

I'm thinking I like their choice of glass. Dark and reflective. Could be a deal maker for me despite its somewhat boring design. Tall, dark, and shiney.

I don't mind that view of the Aloft Hotel going away, but I will miss that view of the One American Center. I've spent a lot of time at Auditorium Shores going to concerts with an eye on the skyline.

It's obviously all about to start changing with Indeed/6x and a few others, but our skyline became very lake-focuses in the last decade. It's very shallow and very wide.

Silicon Labs is sitting on some pretty high dollar land. I wonder if within 20 years or less, they get an offer they can't refuse and go suburbia. The spots they are hogging just begs for something taller.

I'd speculate that it could be possible closer to 20 years out rather than sooner. They just spent a few million giving the inside of the buildings that trendy loft look. (It's one of the featured local projects on Gensler - Austin's website.) They are also getting ready to gut the remaining old offices for more of that trendy loft/open work space. The CEO has stated that the floors they rent out and the paid public parking almost pay for the buildings' expenses. But the biggest factor for not selling is that the CEO loves using Downtown Austin as a recruiting tool much like other Tech companies.

Looks like there's only one floor of parking left, maybe two. This should start making a serious impact on the skyline from the south pretty soon.

I also like the glass, moreso than I expected. It's dark, yet at the same time it isn't. The way it reflects light and colors is really neat. Depending on angle of the sun, the glass looks silvery or kinda like mercury. At other angles it looks dark like a very deep sort of charcoal almost to a black tone. It reflects the colors of the surrounding area whether buildings, sky or clouds really well so it has a mirror like effect as well. Overall will be a nice contrast to it's neighbors.

Also I'm digging the black mullions, giving it a similar look to the Bank of America tower on congress. I think once this building is done it will look like we will have another black tower on the skyline (albeit very reflective as Jaydawg pointed out). A nice break from the blue glass that's going up everywhere else that'll give downtown some more variety and texture

Yeah, I'm digging the dark glass. I like it because it's a change of pace for Austin. Don't get me wrong, blue is my favorite color, but I can't help but stare at this one a bit. It's so...different. I also like the texture of the facade. There's even a bit of an optical illusion happening where the narrow sections of the mullions make them appear to jut out from the glass. It reminds me a bit of some of the great black international towers in New York and Chicago.
