What's this with the Olympic Bus Network? I have to organize those myself?

Wow those medal ceremonies performers suck. VANOC went all "Canadian content" on us, in a bad way (and as mentioned before, there is a good way).

On the other hand, that blueprint lineup is incredible. Can't wait!

I just feel like it was false advertising to say "nightly performances by world renowned artists". I wouldn't have bought if they would have actually laid out the plans to stretch themselves thin by trying to select one mediocre performer from each province, who, not all Canadians have heard of... let alone the World. Shame on VANOC for selecting people who can't get big crowds for free, let alone for 60,000 paying people

Even selecting just Canadian acts is pushing it, but purposely making sure only ONE FROM EACH PROVINCE when you have provinces that have a plethora of talent compared to others....

Some people will be pissed to find out they have to listen to this guy from Nunavut.

If you are going from Vancouver to a Whistler (Olympic Nordic Park, Alpine, or Sliding Centre) or Cypress event, there will be no public parking at any facility. If you are going to Whistler and have parking somewhere, you'll need to request a pass prior to the Games (not sure what that process is) in order to go through the checkpoint they are setting up en route.

If you're going to local Vancouver events, you're encouraged to use BC Transit or Skytrain, etc. The Bus Transportation Network doesn't apply to those events . . . it's the events out of town where the Bus Transportation Network comes into play.

We're going to Whistler for an event but just decided to book a shuttle through the ridebooker site folks have mentioned here previously. We just wanted to be able to arrive early and stick around afterward to enjoy the atmosphere at Whistler before and after the event.

But with Cypress events, there really isn't another option. You have to use the Olympic Bus Transportation Network to get there. If you need and plan to use the network, you basically have a window of buses you're allowed to book based on your specific event. They depart from various depots in the area (Lonsdale, Capillano Univeristy, Simon Fraser University, etc) and you have to book a ticket for one of the times scheduled for departure from those locations to the event location. So when you go to the event, you'll need to arrive for your scheduled bus, bringing your bus network ticket and your event ticket (not just for the event - ha - but also to show in conjunction with your bus network ticket).

They encourage you to book the bus transportation network tickets early if you need them, which makes sense. I just wanted to get it sooner rather than later so we could take an earlier shuttle. I just didn't want to feel all rushed on the other end getting through security and all. I also didn't want to risk finding out that they were running low on reserved seats for shuttles. I wouldn't be surprised since everything else has proven to be in such demand.

^ and to add on to that, Olympic network buses will of course take you back to the city from the venue and the last bus leaves 2 hours after the event ends.

I have to say the "surprise" $22/person bus tickets to Whistler are a joke. There are a lot of pissed off families that bought tickets to Whistler events (think 2 parents and 2-3 kids), expecting they could take the minivan up, that now won't be going.

I recall seeing information about limiting private vehicles to Whistler and Cypress from the very beginning. And I specifically remember reading that the transit fee added to the price of each ticket purchase was to offset for local transit only, NOT transportation on the bus network they intended to set up for Whistler and Cypress.

The information was out there quite early. It wasn't hidden. If anything, I kept seeing it mentioned again and again during the various ticket opportunities. I'm sure some people missed it or didn't think it applied to them for some reason, but I have to give VANOC credit for trying to set clear expectations whenever additional costs would apply.

First, anyway to know if anything's actually selling on there?

Second, for ticket sellers, is the fee taken upon posting, or upon sale? What happens if your tickets don't sell... VANOC still going to try to collect their fee?

Well since there won't be any parking... they would have been in for another, much more frustrating, shock.

I got my tickets which I purchased during Phase 1. I'm still waiting for my Phase 3 tickets to get here. I'm also waiting for my tickets for Phoenix to arrive (it is a cultural olympiad event). I'm a little more anxious to get those concert tickets because the show is this month!

Yeah things are selling. I just sold a pair of curling tickets.

If your tickets sell, you will receive payment in April after the Games. If the fee you are referring to is the cut that VANOC takes, the fee is taken upon sale.

If your tickets don't sell, which you have up to 24h (I think) prior to the event, then those tickets are yours. Since you haven't sold them, VANOC will not take their cut.
