Yeah. But the feds have never had regular funding for roads. They might fund some major improvement. But that's discretionary on whether they agree with a project. No different than their contribution to transit funding. If there's some highway they don't want to pay for, just say "That's not our priority right now.". The actual policy really hasn't changed much. It's the language that is inflammatory.

Libertarianism, much like socialism, is a very broad tent with lots of different schools of thought. The 'rugged individualism' that everyone associates with the term is just one of those schools.

Guilbault has a history of silly climate actions. Climbing on Ralph Klines roof in the early morning hours when Ralphs wife was the only one home should have put the twit away for some years. Kline's Wife had PTSD after that one and it probably explains the disdain the present Female Premier of Alberta has personally for Guilbault. He was also arrested for a greenpeace stunt on the CN Tower. Then the no road funding stunt yesterday to the Climate anointed conference. All from a man that has never owned a car. FFS Grow up.

He tried to clear things up today by stating that the Feds would not be chipping in to Tunnel under the St Lawrence between Quebec City and Levi's. Hmmm and the ridings around there usually vote Conservative or Bloc.
The Libs shortly after being elected ramped up Fed contribution to road projects from 33% to 50%. Minister Guilbault apparently is announcing changes that seem to be Philosophical pronouncements and political suicide all in one.

He was also anti-nuclear power...although supposedly he has come around on that.

I honestly don't even think we'd get this level of radical background in a Minister of Environment in a hypothetical NDP government.

Amusingly, that tunnel project you’re talking about, would be under the responsibility of Transport Minister Guilbault

The way he has been allowed to spout off about everything makes you wonder what does he have over the PMO?

The Federal Environment minister really knows how to make the conservatives and PPs job so easy. All you have to do is simply let him open his mouth and you will get him saying the" feds aren't building roads anymore" and "we need to stop thinking EVS will help the environment". Throw in this stupid pharamcare plan and there are multiple things that will bring this government down or completely hold them down till election 2025.

Probably the whole PMO is taking their cue from a disengaged and apathetic PM.

This has to be the final nail in the coffin. How much more do his remaining supporters need to see?

$250M of tax money to a 4 person company

And our environmental zealot minister saying the government won't build any new roads.

That's a fair point.

Today I learned of Section 43 of the Criminal Code:

Quote:
Every schoolteacher, parent or person standing in the place of a parent is justified in using force by way of correction toward a pupil or child, as the case may be, who is under his care, if the force does not exceed what is reasonable under the circumstances.
In other words it's legal in Canada to spank a child or hit them with a paddle, rod, or belt.

Today I also learned that Pierre Poilievre and the Conservative Party is in favour of letting children be struck by parents or teachers, as they voted against second reading of Bill-273, which would repeal Section 43.

It's gross that Pierre Poilievre and the Conservative Party support hitting kids.

If this issue is so important, why is it an NDP private members’ bill that was introduced in 2021? Does Trudeau support hitting kids?

So did the 4 person company delivery what it promised? Sounds like it did.

The US has their own version of this that they have been rolling out MPC. You should look into, in the same way as CanArive app works it allows you to jump to the front of the line by answering many of the questions customs wants to know about ahead of time.

Did they over pay, yes they did. But that is a different story.

Yes, we're all aware that the ArriveCan app exists. Thanks for the reminder?

And perhaps you have a different book in front of you, because from what I understand that's actually the whole point of the story.

That isn't the issue at all. The issue is whether CanArrive was defrauding the government by submitting fake invoices for no work that was actually done.

This was more or less the business model portrayed on the Sopranos. Yes the garbage got collected or the esplanade got built, but the mafia was skimming millions from fake invoices and no-show jobs.

GCStrategies has been collecting 30% commission over the last nine years to hire contractors to work on government projects during an era when the federal bureaucracy has ballooned. The two-man company has its office located in a private residence and has made about $70 million commissions over that time. Not sure how much of that goes towards operating expenses, but I would suspect that number would be quite small.

This has all been brought to light because of cost over runs nearing 1000x during the development of the ArriveCan app.

If there's another story here aside form overpaying, it'll be even less charitable to our federal government.

so you have a problem contractor. Some news reports that certain aspects of what went on were referred to the RCMP.

What is odd about the conservatives response is they are suggesting to solution is to build apps like this inhouse instead of contracting out. That is not a typical response on the right they usually are the ones pushing for a smaller public service and now contracting.

Given that this company started getting their extremely generous contracts almost immediately after Trudeau took office and this has been going on ever since, nine years later, it severely strains credibility to suggest that this is just a mistake or an oversight.

I'm sorry, but until they can present strong evidence otherwise, this is deliberate grift by the Liberal party. There's no other explanation.

FOR 9 YEARS!!!!!

Based on your previous comments, I believe you are/have been involved in government contracting. As such you should know that the NUMBER 1 rule put forward by PSPC is that any company that has a PMESS contract with a gov't dept CANNOT bid on any package they help produce. GC Strategies appears to have done this multiple times! Plus initial reports show that they have gone over budget on every single contract, none of which ever have had LDs (which is normally std on contracts > 10M).

As the expression goes "If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck.".

BTW, it's F'n hilarious that you're actually trying to defend this .
