In a way. Basically I want a small combination of other cities mixed with, yes, a little bit of uniqueness to it.

Now does that mean that I want something like the Proposed Al Bawadi devlopment in Dubai, which would get tons of worldwide known landmarks, some even as large as the originals?

No.

What's interesting about these proposals is that one of the options for the Downtown Connector has a portal on this property on the First St. side, which would effect how they design it. I wonder if these proposals being announced now means that the MTA has already nixed that option internally.
The article said it's one of the last remaining empty pieces of land in Downtown. Hope it will look good.

That project was unnamed but there were two other proposals at that meeting that did have a name -- Nikkei Center and Tokyo Artpark Crossing. I prefer those two to the above, if for the sole reason they engage Little Tokyo more and did WAY more outreach to the community beforehand.

Check it out here: http://www.angelenic.com/mangrove-parcel-infill-proposals-would-redefine-little-tokyo/

I noticed today at work that Hanover has a grass strip on the roof under the circle--anyone know why?

Actually I recall a few months ago the Mayor saying in a speech that he wants more rooftops with plants, grass, and maybe even some trees if possible.

I like that idea; it saves space and its possible that it doesn't require Quimby funds, I think. But again, I could be wrong.

I watched Crocodile Dundee III recently. In the beginning of the movie there's a few fly overs of the US Bank Tower looking straight down on top of it. In one seen Mick Dundee and a friend go up to the top of the Wells Fargo Tower in downtown at night. Really cool seen. They looked down, looked over towards the US Bank Tower and other buildings (very cool looking view), and showed the roof of the Wells Fargo Tower. It was pretty neat. They also started talking about earthquakes and started to ponder how safe skyscrapers are and what they'd do during an earthquake. Kind of a funny scene. They ended up nervously running back to the stairs.

Regional Connector

Monday: Regional Connector with Metro and DLANC

By Eric Richardson
Published: Friday, March 21, 2008, at 08:51AM
At a February meeting, possible alignments for Metro's proposed Regional Connector are presented. Last month Metro presented their initial build alternatives for the Regional Connector, a project intended to tie together L.A.'s light rail lines. Five of the eight alternatives presented would run at-grade down 2nd street, closing the street to vehicle service.

On Monday, Metro will be attending a meeting of DLANC's Transportation Committee to present these alignments again, as well as to discuss possible options for separating auto and train traffic at the intersection of 1st and Alameda. The public is encouraged to come and discuss the impact different build options would have on Downtown, and in the end the committee will be looking to past a recommendation on to the DLANC board to officially enter the council's opinion.

The meeting will be Monday, March 24th, at 6:30pm and will be held at the New LATC (514 S. Spring Street). Also on the agenda is information about a streetcar conference planned for Downtown in May.

Regarding the Ritz-Carlton/JW Marriott, it looks as if they're on the 8th floor, no?

If I had to guess I would say its only 4 floors. I think those other floors are below ground. Above ground starts where there is that taller floor, as the lobby...thats my assumption.

Now I'm no engineer but I'm guessing because the building itself curves.
