from the Green line - Gr333n is on the far left - the partner for K2 will be dead center.

Yes!

I've been waiting years and years and years for this news. This is Chicago's version of the Penn Station preservation struggle, and we've won.

Yes. In fact these are the 2nd permits for both addresses. They each got foundation permits a month or so ago. There's probably already part of a structure at these addresses.

Work to start in 2 weeks. I'm so glad that that asswipe (rest his soul) John Stroger didn't succeed in his mission to demo that treasure.

It may be time to start buying up property around this site. It's gonna heat up...

That clown was trying so hard to get it demo'd, and only because he really wanted the county to pay out to the demolition company that got the contract for the job, which incidentally yet not surprisingly was a friend of the Stroger family. Sickening, really.

Ding ding! This is Phase I of the IMD Gateway... these are basically just one-story retail pavilions, imagine a strip mall with an actual landscaped plaza in place of the parking lot. Almost looks like a little slice of Old Orchard Mall, although I assume it will be more Panera Bread and less Pottery Barn.

Because the buildings are just one story, the foundations have been done for weeks. Literally they just put a bunch of steel up yesterday the second they received their permit. I was very happy to finally see something notable happening on that site after 5-6 years of staring at a blighted Detroit-esque vacant lot.

.
You mean "almost looks like an embryonic North/Clyborn" because that's what it is and likely what this entire Western and Ogden corridor will turn into now that the West Side is starting to develop in the ways that Lincoln Park or the South Loop have developed leading to the Roosevelt and North Ave retail corridors. There will be a Home Depot withing two blocks of that intersection within 5 years.

LOL I'm sure you and I would both appreciate a Home Depot there.

Seriously though, North/Clybourn never dedicated this much landscaped space for pedestrians until the Apple Store opened. Everything else is just a massive fustercluck of cramming as much parking in as possible. The planning of the new Gateway retail area really does reminds me of Old Orchard and Oakbrook. Little white brick one-story retail pavilions with covered walkways. I just randomly found these two identical photos below.

It's not an insult, Oakbrook's public spaces were actually designed by mid-century landscape/urban design master Lawrence Halprin. (They've been renovated since then but the basic configuration remains.)

IMD Gateway

Oakbrook Center

^ This layout is still 1000 times better than the criminal shit-factory that is North Clybourn

Based on these photos, Oakbrook Center looks significantly better.
