The new fire station seems to be on track to be built next year. There was a tender for construction management services at the end of July. It will be going in this empty lot in the Greens. https://flic.kr/p/2rtN7jE

Basically the general contractor is is hired as a consultant and the owner pays the sub-contractors directly.

Tender closed about 2 weeks ago but hasn't been awarded so no dollar value listed yet. Though if they do provide one it may be just the value of the services not the construction cost.

Did a fly around of the McCarthy sewer relining project: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHLvHNgaEho

They wrangled all the dam pieces that floated off. Sewer pipe installation moving towards Dewdney. Costco land clearing progressing quickly. First of the new Avana apartments in Westerra probably ready for occupancy soon.

SaskPower has been working at the Lawson for about a month creating a new electrical vault probably to relocate any lines that might be in the way of the new aquatic centre.

Looks like they are doing the Coopertown ground breaking today. A tent setup near the construction equipment and several vehicles parked in the field when I drove down 9th N at lunch.

Graham just pulled a $9.4 million foundation permit for the new LTC facility. If anyone was wondering the name of the new street: 4755 GRASSLAND STREET

It is listed as 5 storeys.

Several more Dewalt Ave apartments in Skyview added, 7 total.

The video I took yesterday reminded me to ask the city whether the contamination was cleaned up so the dog park could proceed. The response was that the area they worked in for the new sewage line is now clean, but the dog park is planned to encompass a larger area than that. So testing and remediation is needed first. BUT the money for that park was reallocated to the aquatic centre. So the cleanup and the park both need to be introduced into a future city budget, so I wouldn't expect anything this decade. They also gave me a link to a page dedicated to the contamination which includes an update from last year. https://www.regina.ca/parks-recreati...age/index.html

Sewage line work cutting into Dewdney. I was curious about the pipe diameter and managed to find that it is 2.1 meters or 6.9 feet. Rink upgrade nearly finished at Ruth Buck park.

Coopertown, Regina's newest community, is ready for construction
The area will feature 8,000 single-family lots and 100 multifamily acres with 6,000 units, including rentals and for-sale homes.
The neighbourhood is set to welcome 36,000 people over the next 30 years with different types of housing.

“In our first phase, we're going to have quite a number of townhomes. We'll have a parcel with townhomes. In our second phase, we're going to have rental apartments. So there's going to be a full range of housing types,” said Jason Carlston, vice-president of Dream Development.

The site will feature 8,000 single-family lots and 100 multifamily acres with 6,000 units.

Carlston also mentioned the area will have amenities, including shops and retailers, along with the construction of new schools.

Here is the video from 10 years ago. The concept is for it to have its own "downtown".

The big lot or this smaller one? I think there was something going on in the smaller one when I rode by there in the past week.

I remember when the plan for Harbour Landing also included a town square (pedestrian-friendly, with shops, school, church, etc). Then after the whole plan was basically approved, developer changed it to just basic commercial/residential.

Unless and until the city actually enforces these designs and imposes massive fines for not following them, I wouldn't expect any unique developments in Regina.

Westerra also had a mainstreet concept. Hard to blame the developers when the demand is not there. Suburbanites like their parking lots and box stores. Renters are not clamouring to live above commercial space in suburbia.

I think that's what most people who complain about suburban sprawl seem to not understand when it comes to development. People want what they want when it comes to one of the biggest decisions of their lives and the majority want quiet neighbourhoods away from the noise and congestion. I can't wait to get away from downtown at the end of the work day and I just want a quiet place.
