Yea I wrote T Bay because I didn’t know what the area’s actually called. Plus no one would know Shuniah but Thunder Bay.

When a group is struggling, you help it along.

There are issues where men need the same degree of support that we're offering to minorities and women, but they're not getting it, and I think that's part of the problem that you're seeing here. But another aspect of that is that those problems men are having are also problems that men often deny they have, which makes helping them difficult. As I'm sure you've said many times, you can't help those who don't want to help themselves.

Yes, we need dialogue in order to sort things out no matter what the level of analysis is: couples, friends, families, nations, women and men, men and men, etc.

I am particularly worried about men (of all shapes, sizes, colours, you name it). And that's because I'm an educator (and a man). And as everyone in education knows, boys are in trouble all the way from primary school to university. It's been that way for years. Everywhere I look I see boys dropping out of school and life. People used to care but not any longer. We used to talk about it but not now.

Anyway, enough of that...

And we absolutely should, but within the context of what it is that's actually affecting men, and more often than not, that's the expectations of other men. Our gender is destroying itself.

I believe Ottawa might have its first murder of 2019.

Also 9 shootings so far. None fatal though. On pace for well over 100 so 2018's record of around 80 would be smashed.

That Ottawa murder appears to be a case of matricide. The family is originally from Nunavut.

Rough 24-48 hours for Ottawa with two shootings and police killing a suspect in another incident.

The guy shot by cops was an indigenous man with mental health issues.

He entered a mall dressed in black wielding a knife.

His family says he was just there to fetch a prescription.

There were protests about this today.

Something interesting about the racist posters here - they fail to mention that in the early 90's, Toronto was much whiter and yet had a higher homicide rate...

Generally, the homicide/crime trend has been pretty much static here for a while. So blaming demographic shifts seems not just idiotic and lazy, but down right malicious.

That's not to say certain immigrant communities don't have problems with crime, but to lay the blame on 2018 homicide's numbers purely on the argument that there are more black people, is a stunning combination of both laziness and racism. I mean, Montreal actually has a larger black population percentage wise, and a much lower homicide rate.

This is one straight out of a movie - two men had a late night gun fight in a restaurant in Winnipeg and shot each other to death "simultaneously". Apparently it's never recorded to have happened in Canada before.

Gang related.

They both simultaneously won and lost! Bonus fun: someone assaulted one of the dead murderers (before/while he died) and now they're being charged with assault!

It's been the coldest stretch in a couple years. Let's see how it looks come the end of August.

It will likely be better based solely on the outliers from last year with the van attack and Danforth shooting.

Last night, an Amber Alert went off concerning an abduction in GTA. The 10-year-old girl was found dead in a house in Brampton. The suspect, which was her father, was arrested in Orillia.

Damn, I got the amber alerts on my phone late last night and then a message an hour later that the child had been located. I thought it was good news.
