are they adding a second entrance to Gateway on the south? there is a big section hoarded up on the platform, with all the development on the south side of 104th it would be better than the single often crapped entrance on the north side.

Only saw this:

Quote:
We are upgrading the emergency exit stairwell at Gateway Station to accommodate more customers, in line with anticipated growth in ridership over the coming years. We will build a set of scaffolding stairs from the ground level up to the middle of the platform.

Construction activities involve penetration through the platform, and demolition of the existing stairs prior to excavation and erection of the stairs. The work is noisy, and will done mainly during the night, although some activities may be scheduled during the day.

All the landings are half circles but not the one second from the bottom, and it kinda pisses me off ngl

They need to have a door to prevent people from going up the stairs, and I guess that's the only way to fit a flat door onto the structure.

New Westminster and Metrotown used to fit the ground-level gate below the flight above it but for whatever reason this new staircase centers the door, so either built a caged room at the ground with curved walls or a square box.

Maybe they need some space for a crush-zone instead of having the door butted up against the last few stairs.

i wonder if they realized the white is better for grafiti, and also mildew growth. that green always hid the mildew way better than the white.

nice to see they stuck with the original style. wonder if they had this in storage they found in the back lot.

I'm still willing to bet the reason AGU selected green for urban stations was exactly because it was a very low maintenance color.

What are the gap extenders? Are the new trains wider using the full width of the designed width and the older trains will need gap fillers as the gap will be big?

No, the new trains are the same exterior width.

What I think they're referring to is the taper that currently exists at the end of each platform. If you look at the end of a platform you'll notice that the yellow strip tapers in by about 5cm at the end of each platform. The new trains will be longer and the doors at either end will be very near to the ends of the platforms, I imagine they'll do some work to reduce the gap at the ends of the platforms.

Just a guess.

Enjoy it while it's shiny and new, till it becomes filthy like the rest of the Canada Line stations.
