It's interesting that some people still have absolutely no clue as to what Detroit is like now, it's like night and day compared to a decade ago!

As for drugs, most of the busts have been thugs from Toronto coming down here, not from Detroit, pretty ironic, isn't it?
Haha that is Ironic! On the Topic of Windsor & Southewestern Ontario in general, I keep trying to tell my friends. (As well as my parents that Cities like Windsor & Chatham are the future), I think it would be wise to invest in that area long term. (Especially in housing near Windsor's Waterfront/ Downtown). I could see myself buying down there in the coming years & then waiting for the housing to appreciate decades down the road.
I honestly think that's an emerging region/ Megalopolis. Sure Windsor's economy is closely tied to Detroit's, but if Detroit is growing again.
(& Windsor is seeing healthy gains), ur looking @ a future GTA Alternative likely near the end of my lifetime. (& that's huge if where talking about things like Housing/ Cost of Living/ Heavy Industry etc).
Windsor is also very Multicultural & has more comfortable winter's than Toronto does.

Tosin, the only thing you do that I find bothersome are the word salads you so routinely post. If they are more than 2 or 3 lines I usually just scroll past them.

The easiest thing you could do is clean up the basic structure of your posts (separate paragraphs with spaces in between them would be a huge start).

Real estate is already appreciating quickly, up over 20% from last year, I wouldn't wait too long to buy down here

Hmm I knew about True North Square in Winnipeg (but thanks for posting a construction picture anyhow), wasn't aware of 360 Main St though... A possible new tallest? It also looks like they might/will reclad that ARTIS tower right next to it too? What's the chance of it getting approved or starting construction pretty soon?

The Artis Tower (360 Main) is over half done the reclad right now. The 40 storey apartment tower (300 Main) is scheduled to start services relocation any day now, and the tower should begin rising in Sep/Oct of this year. The foundation is already in place so it will begin to rise as soon as the tower crane is up.

It really is... don't laugh too hard: http://skyscraperpage.com/diagrams/?searchID=77032894

What you see there is just the first few of many...

Just in the last few months there have been proposals for three 150+ metre towers alone. At the rate it's growing up, Vaughan could be a top 10 Canadian skyline within 10 years...

BTW: Yonge & Steeles is starting to get there as well...

I would have not problem living in Windsor. Plus the international border keeps the criminals away. But is Detroit really booming? I know the downtown has gotten better, and perhaps Midtown and Corktown are doing okay, but last time I went there a year and a half ago, I felt like the rest of the city was quite rundown and hopeless.

On the west coast at least, border towns have more crime than average. e.g. Surrey and Abbotsford have lots of crime/drug issues for suburban areas.

I've heard that Detroit is starting to fix itself up..but booming??????
The city was bankrupted just over 3 years ago...though I have heard the downtown is becoming a better place with numerous restorations of downtown buildings....but the city has a LONG ways to go from where it is, even though it is seemingly making progress. I've heard before even recently that crime is still really bad in the city....so much so that in some areas you cannot stop your car for an intersection or you'll be carjacked. The city itself had a plan to demolish a quarter of all built up neighbourhoods purely because of how bad abandonment has struck the city historically..hopefully they did something there...because that sounds terrifying.

I'll admit Detroit is getting better, but it's not going to be an overnight change...even with reinvestment in the historic downtown and the supposed increase in artists into Detroit.

I feel the same way humble Ottawan, but I am stuck choosing between Windsor & London Ontario, I like London a bit more maybe (Partially due to size), & Proximity to Toronto (In comparison to Windsor). I know that both Southwestern Ontario Cities have a bit of a rivalry & it goes beyond the London Knights & Windsor Spitfires. London I think/ find is in a nice little sweet spot where it's affordable & halfway between both Detroit & Toronto.
But yeah I like Toronto like a Hundred times more than Detroit. (I just wish I could afford to live there), but a City like London should suffice I think.
Who know's maybe north42 will give me a good pitch to pick Windsor over it, but as of now not really sure..

Obviously the city is not going to change overnight, and nobody is expecting that, but the city is booming right now. Most of the major investments are in a few neighbourhoods like DT , Mid Town, and Corktown, but investments are being made throughout other parts of the city as well, and are making a difference. Some neighbourhoods that are still viable are being rehabbed instead of just razing all of the abandoned houses, Lots of new commercial, office and residential developments being announced, a new tallest tower by Dan Gilbert is proposed at over 70 stories, unemployment is dropping, residential vacancy rates are near 0 in the DT, rents are rising quickly. So many new stores and restaurants opening weekly, lots of foot traffic now and violent crime has been dropping for years. It's just the beginning of the boom, but it's ramping up quickly, and it is very noticeable to anyone who knows the city.

I'm sure you would be happy with either city really, as both have their own charms, but Windsor is in a completely different spot compared to London, being in an two city international metro of 4.5M, compared to London being two hours from the nearest large city. Windsor is definately more blue collar, gritty and multicultural than London, and to me actually feels more urban due to its many old ethnic neighbourhoods, and connectivity with Detroit, compared to more white and suburban feeling London. London's DT feels much bigger than Windsor's though. London is becoming more diverse as well lately though, which is nice to see.

As for Detroit and Toronto, they are very different from each other, but are both great cities. I think you would really like Detroit if you were to come and visit and actually see what the city is like. The Windsor/Detroit area is very underrated, but it is currently going through a renaissance and it's a very exciting time to live here.

That's awesome, I love Walkerville, it's the best neighbourhood in the city. What's bringing you to the area?
