Sorry if you mean me. if you mean the storm.

*****

Ordered fries, dressing, and gravy from Ches' down the block. Went out and had to dig out... AND help the neighbours get a cabbie on his way. FFS, council workers are ignoring our street.

I'm on the left, super hot girl (with the hottest BF ever) is on the right. Although not interested, obviously, I still get blushy and weird around crazy hot girls. She came out all dolled up to finish shoveling. Thanked me for doing to her door. Swoon.

But we got him out!

Great pics, SHH. That's quite the dump of snow you guys got. While I'm sure it's a pain in the ass to deal with, it looks good in pictures.

Despite dipping below zero a few times, Shanghai has remained snowless. I'd love to take a picture from this vantage point with everything covered in snow.

With a name like that there must be a lot of people there who make kitchens. Would be a great place to buy sinks and cabinetry!

It's here:

The only attractive angle of our decrepit Downtown West End. Half of it was cleared for towers that were never built, but slowly filled in with a bit of everything.

Beautiful pics, Sig. I didn't realize the number of deciduous trees out in CBS; I usually consider them a St. John's thing, since everything else in the province (minus Swift Current and the West Coast) is nothing but coniferous forest.

Valiant effort with the photos, but there's no getting around it: Kitchener-Waterloo is not a photogenic place. It defies charm. The mediocre monotony of the built form pushes you away, best symbolized in the form of the Health Sciences Campus at Victoria and King, one of the ugliest and patently stupidest new buildings you will ever lay eyes on.

https://www.google.ca/maps/@43.45295...LwzA!2e0?hl=en

The designer who decided it was a good idea to put a floral print barely worthy of a shower curtain on the windows really does need to have his or her head examined. This, architecture fans, is a case where the word "tacky" doesn't just need a capital T, but has to be followed by one, or several, exclamation points.

It's a shame that the U. of Waterloo and its mathematics and computer science firepower never set up shop in Galt instead back in the day. Galt is fully 25 km away at the southernmost tip of Kitchener-Cambridge-Waterloo, and has got real bones to work with. It's a peculiar irony that intellectual and cosmopolitan Waterloo is a deadly boring suburban anywheresville, while mullet-headed and trailer parkish Galt is a North American version of a market town in the UK, replete with charming vistas along the river.

There is no justice when it comes to these things.

I detect a hint of jealousy from someone who most likely lives in city not far West of K-W.

Say what you like about our region, K-W is booming and that will only continue as the LRT system is competed and the technology sector explodes.

Here are some of my favourite personal photos of this "not photogenic place" leading off with one of the "tacky" Hariri and Pontarini designed School of Pharmacy building

Thanks for the photos of KW, they brought back good memories. I'm a big fan of the region and obviously the amazing tech scene there.

I do have to say though, downtown Cambridge is much nicer in terms of the way it treats, presents and integrates the Grand River. Same with smaller towns like Paris, Elora/Fergus, they make the river a feature of the city and provide some great views. The Grand River in Kitchener/Waterloo however is rarely seen and doesn't have much around it.

Having said that Downtown Kitchener is getting better every year.

I have wondered what if the tech & University boom in Waterloo had happened in a place like Hamilton, which seems to have more historical architecture & neighbourhoods, is beside the lake resulting in beaches and (slightly) more moderate weather, and interesting terrain (waterfalls, escarpment lookouts), closer to the wine region, and likely better access to the GO train to Toronto when the new station is built. If Hamilton had the economic prowess of Waterloo, it seems like it could've been an amazing city.
