I have always found it interesting how so many different opinions can be formed about the same thing. Some of the opinions on here fascinate me. I actually really like the "Jetsons Building." To be honest, I'm not sure why I do. Perhaps because it is a unique building style.

That could work.
I'll take it that tall. However the city tends to have taller buildings on corner of the blocks. not in the middle of a block. Too have something as tall as 35+ stories it will most likely have to go in the corner just as the model showed us. It looks like we will be losing both the "Old Navy Building" and the former "SLCC building"

Sorry guys, but this is a little off the current topic. I just took some photos with my phone of my new office building that I am part owner of. I thought I would share these with everyone. It is coming along nicely and should be completed by June.

Thanks Delts. It is really cool to be a part of this. Granted it is a small project, but maybe in the future I can be apart of something much bigger in the downtown area.

Scraperdude, this posting was in reference to some of my comments for the arts district I think. When I wondered if the facade of the Dinwoody was still in tack.

Sorry, stupid and somewhat unrelated question.
What program did you use to add that building into the slc skyline?
I have some ideas for the skyline I would like to post so I would like to figure out how to do that.

Congrats, T-Mac!

Unrelated question--why do so many people like the Bennion Jewelers Building--that's the one north of the "Jetsons Building" on the corner of Main and 100 South, right? What's so magical about it? I thought it was a relatively new building--used to have Old Navy on the first floor...if it's a choice between a 4 story building and a skyscraper, I'd rather see some height there.

Here are a few updates for well now yesterday March 7th

The Trax extension is almost done!

The new Gateway Station

There are a total of 3 cranes on campus at the U; The Library, a geology building and the hospital. And a total of at least 6 buildings going up on campus. Ill have to carry my crappy camera around one day

Isn't it a beauty! I can't imagine Main Street without it. This building has sooooo much potential to be reused as a museum, or something like that; it's in a perfect location. Build your high-rise building somewhere else!

Apartments scarce, expensive

"Rent growth is the highest it's been in over a decade, " said Jed Millburn, investment associate with Apartment Realty Advisors.

This is about one of my favorite gripes. I was driving past the Metro Condominiums and observing the progress when I was struck by something. Like most people, it is a sight so common that I just don't see it unless I think about it. Right in front of this building is an enourmous, hideous power pole. This is evidently where the power lines go underground and continue south past the City and County Building (this is one of the few places in the city with underground power lines). Continuing north up second east is a line of ancient, delapidated power poles and a half-dozen power lines. Most of them are no longer standing straight and some are warped. They go past some of Salt Lakes newest buildings, like the govenment center and the IRS building. It will probably still be there when the new Harmons and the condo tower are built. It's like something you'd see next to an old country road, not the middle of a modern city. It's a disgrace and something Rocky Mountain Power should be very proud of. It's similar to the one in front of the Salt Palace on Third West (which I've griped about before) and almost everywhere else. Today I read that Rocky Mountain Power is resisting putting the power lines underground near the future Holladay Village. What would it take to get these underground? I think this is one of Salt Lake's biggest problems.

This is about the so-called "Jetson's building". It was originally a bank, but I can't remember which. This used to be a Salt Lake landmark until the abandonment of Main Street. Something you can't see are the soaring seagulls going up the front. This really demonstrates that one person's treasure is another person's garbage. It's one of Salt Lakes most significant historical buildings. Tearing it down would be stupid and tragic. They ruined it with those exposed beams in front -- a misguided earthquake-proofing. They've got to go.

I think the point that many are trying to make is that there is no need to tear down the bennion jewelers and jetsons buildings for a new tower. There is a surface parking lot across the street that would be much better suited for a new tower.

The concept that architecture is somehow disposable and that a building should be torn down and replaced as soon as someone thinks its ugly has already cost our city too many historic buildings.

It is located on 500 W and about 1700 S in Woods Cross. It is just a little northeast of Woods Cross High School.

I think it was originally the Prudential Savings and loan building. The Seagull sculpture was a very attractive feature of the building. I would like to see it restored to its former landmark beauty. The Bennion Jewelers building was actually the former genealogical library. It's facade has been reconfigured at least a couple of times over the past fifty years. I think the original facade was actually much more elaborate. At least it is still quite attractive unlike so many remakes.
