It is totally not what Shindico does. They have no track record ever for restoring anything like this....they like inexpensive pre-fab strip malls and prefab buildings.
It takes people like The Pollards who appreciate and understand the sensitive nature of restoring a heritage building.

Shindico would never be involved in this project regardless of the incentives. It would be nice if the reporters found a developer with more of a background in this sort of work.
Sandy Shindleman gets asked for his opinion because his company is visible in Winnipeg.

I'm sure the media would ask major developers/property mangers like Leon A Brown or Colliers or Mccor for their opinions on the Bay if they were as visible to the public as Shindico is.

I remember a while ago someone, I think Vike, mentioned there is an update coming regarding the Bay...

Have we heard any updates?

Here are the renderings for the Vancouver Bay redevelopment:

https://vancouver.thebaybuilding.ca/

Obviously very different markets and circumstances, but interesting to see the plans for a similar-ish building.

Very similar buildings and size. That is a massive addition.

Vancouver has experience in this department, they redeveloped the huge Woodward's Building including major additions (which is in a less desirable site than Hudson's Bay) 15 years ago.

One of my favorite new buildings period. I don't think it represents redevelopment of an existing structure though.

^ Ah, OK...thanks for clarifying. I was under the impression that it incorporated the old structure.

What if someone proposed a redevelopment like that for Winnipeg, i.e. demolish and replace with an excellent new building?

I would hope the answer would be "go and build your excellent new building on any one of the other surplus lots in downtown, otherwise, piss off".

A new arena replaced Eaton's. So we're sort of on par with Woodward's in that sense.
