I don't know a lot about Saskatoon but the rest of the country is currently in a housing shortage crisis. Saskatoon may stop growing population wise like the rest of that province soon but I think the city should still look to the future and try to build for future residence now. I understand these buildings are big and scary but someday citizens of that city will grow to admire their accomplishments of their city developers work.

Kamloops is like probably half the size of Saskatoon and has plans to build a similar sized project downtown.

Saskatoon may never to be able to build residential projects like Kelowna, or Barrie or Moncton for that matter in Canada but I think it would still be a good investment in the future of Saskatoon if it tried.

Kinda funny. I read the text of this post, saw “skid mark” and thought to myself, “that sounds like a King Ralph post”. I scroll up to see that my guess was confirmed. Some things are just predictable. Sort of like the sun rising in the east and setting in the west…

That moncton project is even worse than this one lol, let alone the new river landing towers and the possibility of the tower off broadway someday... not a lot to be jealous of in moncton

I agree with zeebra. And the kamloops build besides the wavy fad of the high-rises is market mall. The first barrie boxes build the white tops don't even fit. Saskatoon is colder and Baydo will be fine here. Downtown will be more colorful and lively and convenient
JustForTheHalibut, you also don't know we have a Meridian wavy glass project! Maybe. Now you know!

Agree on the horrible Moncton renderings....and of course we would never, nor should be, compared to Barrie (a "suburb" of Toronto). I also find the Kamloops proposal a bit 'blah', but great for them to get that kind of density proposed for their city!

I hold out hope for Urban Capital to get back into Saskatoon market and for Meridian to proceed with the "jetson" tower. Diversity in architecture is a good thing. Also, Meridian's Montage rental in Uni Heights with roof top pool and plaza is a nice addition currently under construction.

I bet Meridian is back to the drawing board to adjust the jetsons tower to look a little more gothic to align to the church… prior to starting digging? Let’s hope (although I love it’s vibe - very modern China toy architecture seems to be the inspiration there).

That should be the condo project that’s an in between to Baydo and No 1 RL that everyone here wants.

Btw Alt Hotel’s / No 1RL’s restaurant is now open and it is amazing! Parking is atrocious over there, but thank god for the beautiful underground parking with free EV chargers.

A note on BHP jobs in saskatoon

On the point of BHP jobs in Saskatoon, the below link from the Star Phoenix note around 200 jobs in the city. That will require a fair amount of office space and housing. What would the office space be equivalent to? Possibly 3 floors in river landing?

Nutrien has 9 floors for about 350 at the Nutrien tower. I feel like with COVID they might just keep their existing space… maybe a small expansion to it via crazy ole North Prairie folks that originally planned a 30 story tower in the parking lot next to it prior to the delays of this mine. A company like BHP would do a tender process though, so maybe they’d move to River Quarry (that has plans to expand even though it’s still empty) or maybe this weird looking old Canada Blood Services building? All three of those developers seem to have some insight on commercial development downtown…. One of them must have a lead on BHP’s project to be retaining their commercial plans.

This new mine will have a ton of automation to it underground as well - engineers can be based in Saskatoon and driving equipment, running facility processes.,, the labourers are still there to maintain the equipment though, but less folks underground the safer it is.

I think the biggest noticeable benefit is indirect contractors and firms doubling their workforce to handle tendered projects for each piece of this mine as it gets built.

That first Barrie proposal is precisely the aesthetic I wish Baydo towers would have had. That is a design that would enhance Saskatoon's skyline. Blending in with bland towers by adding more bland makes no sense. I'm sorry.. I hate these towers so much.. despite liking the added density to the core...just had much higher hopes after seeing how River landing turned out. Hoping that when completed, I"ll be pleasantly surprised that it'll look better than the renders.

What is the restaurant? In Alt or one of the towers? I know there is a breakfast place and ice cream place already, but are you referring to something else?

'jetson' tower in Saskatoon? i'll have to look that up to see what equates to that in a province like Saskatchewan.

Anyways i'm glad that Saskatoon citizens are getting excited about there new found crop of highrise development
If Kamloops and Moncton can do it, then so can Saskatoon, gall darn it!

I guess I should start referring to Saskatoon as a "suburb" of Regina then too?

Pages 146 & 147 of the Saskatoon Construction Thread, contains a couple of renderings and links to more info on Meridian's condo proposed for Spadina Cres.

Just opened a month or so ago… Bokeh - been there twice and it’s been really great! Also did OEB yesterday and the dishes were plated to absolute perfection.

Now we just need that Starbucks in that remaining spot (or other premium coffee joint - my fav Java shop right now is Prism on 20th - best coffee in town).
https://assets.germainhotels.com/ger.../MenuBokeh.pdf

The triovest crew also decorated for xmas - hopefully that’s a wake up call to lazy landlords that don’t decorate for holidays in Saskatoon

As someone who lives near 25th and 5th downtown, wouldn't it be amazing if there was a frequent, fast, and reliable bus that travelled between 25th and 20th streets on 3rd avenue so that you didn't have to find parking

Thanks....among those 4 towers (including condo), there is still a need for full serivice full plate restaurant. I would prefer to see something more casual like Joey's Tomatoe or something like that, rather then a super high end place. I still have a soft spot for Kelsey's but that is REALLY dating myself....lol.

EDIT: just realized this is in the BAYDO thread and likely should be in the restaurant thread....sorry.

the dream - a rapid route through the centre of the downtown. that’s why I loved 3rd ave for BRT before the owners of North Prairie /Cushman (which is who’s holding up the arena land announcement) stuck their noses in there because of their fake tower plans https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/saska...nsit-1.4715209

Do other cities have residential districts boards? Seems like this new Baydo area needs better representation as the small business community has the louder voice than the actual residents of downtown. I’d love any insight to community residential boards in downtown if anyone has any.

No updated photos in a month. How are things looking down there? Any word of whether the scope of the project has changed as a result of shoring issues?

here yall go. some action everywhere on site - more dirt being removed… it must be ending soon! it’s just like taking a while to get the last bit of dirt removed I think. Concrete being poured, steel bars and concrete slabs being put in place. The cold weather and snow slowed things down a bit but things are super busy. Hopefully we’ll see more visual improvement when i post another photo in a few weeks.
