Great to see Katz Group continuing to try and bring people downtown. This is a fantastic idea!

Unlike the city who is doing nothing even close to this, besides taking down the tree.

Really...this sort of stuff belongs in the suburbs. They need to build towers (apartments and condos) to fill this space. Hard to be believe that a major intersection like this can't be filled in city of 1.5 million people.

What a mess of a downtown!!!

I agree. That space should be filled with condo towers - not dog parks and ice rinks.

Its an eyesore now that needs to move forward.

And crickets from the city administration.

Yes there does need to be a tower there. But I rather have something there while that gets figured out.

Not everyone can go play shinny in the suburbs.

Stantec and JW opened in 2019 - 3 years ago. Time to "figure it out" as you say.

Perhaps you heard of something called COVID that delayed everything. Some people will never be happy.

Time for this one to get moving.

To be clear, the City of Edmonton had nothing to do with the removal of the Christmas tree. It was the corporation members in the Downtown Business Association who faked being broke as an excuse not to pay for it. This is what happens when we depend on private business to make all our fun.

I mean the city knew well in advance. They could have filled the void and done the tree.

As for the lot for sure it would be great to get a permanent build on there but there are a ton of empty lots that look a lot worse and do a lot less for the city than what is happening here.

Because the City can force Daryl Katz to develop that lot immediately... Development will be dictated mainly by the market, not by the City alone.

Though, to be fair, the 'government intervention' with the 2021 Edmonton Economic Incentive Construction Grant did help get many projects started that would have otherwise sat still (purportedly).

Touche.

*purportedly

I suppose where I was going with that comment was with the office space space, but I'll concede to your snappy reply.

Office space as in the City taking up hundreds of thousands of square feet of Class AAA office space?

Nope, as is additional influence on new office towers due to RFP or otherwise.

Again, this all going back to 'develop the former baccarat site' talk and how 'The City' should help get it going.

The city could move people out of Century Place and turn it over to the Capital Housing group and residences for those in the arts -as had been envisioned at one time. The City could through the 3-400,000 feet of space on the market encouraging a new tower. Why not?

The last thing we need is more office... even top of market.

Plus this site (bringing it back to the thread topic) is ideal for a mixed-use sport, hotel, tournament, residential site in my mind.
